I think Waterford got caught out with the must not lose thinking mentioned in another thread. Its also the first time ye feel that other results have gone in Dundalks favour when winning. Key step in staying out of the play-off and there is a glimmer of a 4th place finish again, with the hope for Pats to win the cup. Congrats SRFC, its over the line now not that it was ever in doubt obviously.

Fairly fortunate to take a point from Tolka tonight - Shels hit the bar three times before we scored with our only shot. Not that either side was really bothered; we'd left out Kerrigan and Whelan with the playoffs in mind.

Both keepers subbed off, which can't have happened too often. Also, we made six subs per extratime, which I've seen mentioned a couple of times in threads here over the season. Is there something about a concussion rule allowing that to happen?

Great to win another league and a 7k crowd to see it compared to last year BCD.
The three in a row won't be easy.
Aydemo and conan nugent look like two 18 year olds with the world at their feet. Conan unlucky not to score twice.
    Fantastic talent

We were poor tonight. Didn’t play much and stood off Rovers. Big game Monday night.

And so it came to pass.

Wouldn’t dare to call the other European spots, though.

Job done down in Longford with help from a cracking goal from Mattie Smith. What a season we’ve had under SOD, Europe secured with 4 games to go and a cup final against player of the month Bohs to come.

Delighted to see Bucko get the win tonight, hopefully Sligo can get Europe secured soon.

Game on Monday against Derry is under serious threat. The stadium has been dealing with an electrical fault issue since earlier in the week. By all accounts the main board is fried.

Much better from us last night although it was heart in mouth time when James Brown (had a superb game) went clean through at 0-0 in the second half.

With the options the FAI are giving I wouldn’t rule it out....

Play the game Monday during the day or at a neutral venue are apparently two options the FAI have given

The clear glass bowls observation was interesting though would it have mattered who was drawn in the last 4 really, Pats away was the worst draw really. Someone really should tell Birchim the FAI are like referees - sh1te for everyone!

No sympathy for waterford. Its their job to provide a venue to play the match. It's not the fai's job to make sure the lights are on.

What can club do if the required parts and materials need to be ordered in, in order to get the electricity running again? It isn’t a case of unpaid bills or running to woodies to get a new fuse...

If it was Rovers you can bet your arse they’d be looked after by the FAI.

Aside from that, Derry took the option to postpone the original fixture so for me. They should be made wait until both teams can play the game.

Not having a go either as I think Longford's coverage has been among the better I've seen this season, but the two lads on commentary are cracking me up with their reactions of utter disbelief to every single decision the referee makes no matter how innocuous it is.
In defence of our media team the usual two lads that do it couldnt make it at all so one of them would be normally be stadium operator/program editor and the other a director of the media team.
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Maybe have spares in stock in case something breaks?. I'm not anti waterford I hope u stay up but the problem is not of the fai making.

In the situation I don’t think a neutral venue is as nutty an option as Mark thinks it is. I’d say a fix for the issues will take time and a decent few quid to sort out. It’s one of them unexpected things nobody is the victim, a neutral venue gets the game on and buys time to sort out the stadium issues.

There is the option of postponing the game until Thursday, maybe not enough time? but really how bad are supply lines not to get pretty basic kit to fix floodlights for then. If it was of significant or prohibitive cost then its more difficult, but not an insurmountable problem. Its obviously preferable to play at home but as a Dundalk supporter, playing home games in Gortakeegan and United Park were annoying if pragmatic solutions when Oriel wasnt available for whatever reason. If Waterford were beyond ending up in the play-off there would be easier scope for a refixture but Derry have a say too and have their own interests to maybe get a European spot.

The night the lights went out at Oriel when playing Rovers in the 1st Dvision, the trip switch for floodlights were wedged on by a former player and electrician. We were looking like winning until the delay, Vinny Perth scored for Rovers I think that night and the points were the difference by seasons end, i think.
