Glens v Shels on RTE

Can someone explain this blind faith/optimism that Glens v Shels is guaranteed to pull-in a bigger crowd than Liverpool v TNS?

eL games generally get good figures. The main examples would be the Bohs-Pat's Cup semi replay a couple of years ago which brought in more viewers than Man Utd - Stuttgart the same night, and also RTÉ's highlights show which pulled more viewers than their Premiership show (granted, can watch MoTD on BBC as well). The FAI Cup finals get good figures as well. There is a fair bit of passive interest in the league, though getting people to grounds is a different thing altogether.

The points you make about the Liverpool game are valid, of course. It might also pull in more pub viewers, which would skew the figures. I don't think Shels-Glens will crush Liverpool-TNS as is being suggested, but I'd be confident that it will compete very favourably.

I have nothing to go on at all but I would think shels game wouldnt be as popular as the Liverpool one.

Every Liverpool fan will want to be seen "supporting" their team as they are now champions! I doubt they will watch the whole thing but more people will at least start watching the Liverpool game then the Shels one
