    Wexford FC v UCD

Wexford continued their improvement under manager, Ian Ryan, as they nicked another three points against UCD in what turned out to be a fine game in Ferrycarrig tonight. With Lorcan Fitzgerald suspended and Paul Fox missing, Wexford started with Jimmy, Karl M, Kevin, Paul, Karl F, Conor, Harry, Jack M, Jack D, Kyle and Thomas. The game started relatively quietly although, on four minutes, Jimmy Corcoran had to push away a shot from a tight angle by UCD dangerman, Liam Kerrigan. On nine minutes, Wexford’s Jack Doherty had a shot blocked for a corner and, from that corner, Paul Cleary headed over. Few passages of interest from then until 25 minutes, when Thomas Considine was sent through on goal but shot straight at Williams in the UCD goal. Game changed, however, on 33 minutes when Jack Doherty’s shot was deflected past Williams to put Wexford a goal ahead. Wexford remained in relative control from then until half-time and they went in at the break with their one goal lead.

UCD came out with a much more positive attitude at the start of the second half and, on three minutes, Kerrigan found a lot of freedom to latch onto a through-ball by UCD which he finished clinically for 1-1. Both sides then created many chances in what was a fine second half. Wexford’s Thomas Considine firstly dragged a shot a couple of yards wide before Jimmy Corcoran in the Wexford goal made two fine saves to prevent UCD going ahead. On 19 minutes, Kyle Robinson squeezed a shot inside Williams’ near post which the UCD keeper might have done more to prevent. 2-1 to Wexford. Harry Groome and Jack Doherty than went close for Wexford as the home side broke very impressively on a number of occasions from their own half. Late subs for Wexford included Evan Farrell, Ayman Yousif and Luke Scanlon and towards the end of the ninety minutes, Jimmy Corcoran impressively pushed away another goal-bound shot by UCD for a corner. Wexford celebrated the three points at the end with best for Wexford being Paul Cleary who marshalled UCD’s Kerrigan very well, Karl Manahan who was very tidy at right-full and Kevin McEvoy and Jimmy Corcoran who completed a good defensive performance for Wexford. About 160 or thereabouts at the game.
