    Wexford FC v Cobh

Deserved win for Wexford as they showed some good attacking flair against Cobh in Ferrycarrig tonight. With Paul Fox suspended and Jack Doherty injured, Wexford started with Jimmy, Thomas, Paul, Conor, Karl M, Karl F, Kevin, Jack M, Kyle, Evan and Lorcan. Wexford had a stroke of luck right at the start when, after an early attack, they were caught on the break by Cobh, and Paul Cleary was adjudged to have bundled over a Cobh forward inside the Wexford area. The slow floated chip from the peno spot went about a yard over the Wexford bar, however. Both sides looked threatening up front with Wexford impressing with their intricate passing and Cobh having some pace up front which they exploited with direct play. After some decent Wexford half-chances, Wexford went ahead on 27 minutes with a cracker of a goal from the outstanding Jack Moylan, who ghosted past two Cobh defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot past Corey Chambers in the Cobh goal from thirty yards. Wexford then immediately conceded an untidy equaliser when a bobbly cross behind the Wexford defence wasn’t cleared, leaving Devitt to slide it home at the far post for Cobh. Not a lot to report from then until half-time and 1-1 with Wexford creating more of the chances.

Wexford continued to look more threatening at the start of the second half with Kyle Robinson having two good chances, but Chambers in the Cobh goal was equal to both efforts. On eight minutes, Jack Moylan went past four Cobh defenders but his shot was threaded wide of the Cobh goal. On ten minutes, Tyler Dunphy and Harry Groome were introduced for Wexford and immediately Wexford went ahead with Moylan doing all the damage down Wexford’s left before crossing to find Kevin McEvoy at the far post to make it 2-1 for the home side. Cobh then nearly got another equaliser with some direct play but a last-ditch tackle by Wexford’s McEvoy saved the day. Cobh then won a corner from which Wexford broke and another great assist of a pass by Moylan put Thomas Considine in the clear and he dinked the ball over Chambers to make it 3-1. Wexford sailed home serenely enough from then until the final whistle with later subs being Ayman Yousif and Dan Dobbin. A late flurry of yellow cards by the referee seemed hardly warranted. Man of the match was undoubtedly Jack Moylan, with great support on the Wexford side from Karl Fitzsimons, Kevin McEvoy, Lorcan Fitzgerald and Paul Cleary. 3-1 to Wexford at full-time with maybe 160 at the game.
