Marty, you might be the man to help me out.

When I was a young lad I often heard about the Paddy Clabby Cup that used to be played in the summer. And from what I remember, it used to be a huge success.

What I want to know is.... Was it the club that ran it?
And why did they stop it?

I seem to recall that it was around the time we moved out of Abbey carton that it all came to an end.

It would be great to see this Cup competition going again.

Yeah Town legend I actually played in that tournament in mid 90s with a few of the elder Section O crew. From my memories of it it ended in late 90s originally. I am not sure why it ended but it was a huge success for years and it was played in both Abbeycartron and Mullogher. They did try to resurrect it in 06 but I dont think the interest was there and it died a slow death after that!

I have a vague recollection of hearing that it got very expensive to provide insurance for all of the games and that may have been why it was stopped. I may be wrong however.
