Crap team, Amanager who runs away when the heat comes on,and a fan base of about fifteen (if there are no other matches on in Dublin).
For no reason in particular I've put together a few stats on how we're doing after 16 games compared to other seasons;
[B]-1st Division 2003- -1st Division 2005-
Points: 34 Points: 28
Goals For: 22 Goals For: 21
Goals Against: 14 Goals Against: 11
Wins: 10 Wins: 7
Draws: 4 Draws:7
Losses: 2 Losses: 2
Not too much difference there really. Although we undoubtedly have a far more talented team this year, and therefore should probably be doing a little bit better. The main difference seems to be not edging out tight games by the odd goal, too many draws.
In 2003 Dublin City went on to only lose another 2 games, drawing 6 and winning 9. Despite this they still only clinched the title on the final day of the season, by drawing 1-1 with closest rivals Bray. That gave City the title with 3 points to spare.
Just for hah hahs here are the same stats for 2004...
- Premier Division 2004 - (after 16 games)
Points: 10
Goals For: 14
Goals Against: 27
Wins: 2
Draws: 3
Losses: 11
The fact that our 2003 team, consisting of largely average players with a handfull of talented ones was overhauled after achieving promotion and replaced with better ones; Gary O'Neill, Killian Brennan, Ben Whelahan, Bary Ryan - and other players who while not world-beaters were certainly an improvement...and yet we were the whipping boys by some distance, says alot about the gulf in quality and budget between the divisions. This gulf is probably growing wider each year. Giving me a mixed sense of purpose as a follower of a 1st division team currently in the promotion shake-up...best not dwell on it.
