    monaghan utd 1-4 Sligo Rovers

    What a great result.
2 goals from Feeney and a goal a piece from McCartney and Flannery.
Leaves us still 5 points ahead of Dublin and 8 ahead of 3rd place cobh.
Anybody report on the game? How did we play?

Cracking result, made up for the home game!
The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.

Steve Feeney on song as Sligo Rovers restore five points lead

    Monaghan United 1 — 4 Sligo Rovers

    Foy 77 Feeney 6, 21

    McCartney 69,

    Flannery 87.

Steve Feeney hit a brace at CH Park as Sligo regained their five point lead at the top of the Eircom League, First Division.

Having scored in the previous two matches, Feeney struck again after just six minutes to head home a Steve O’Donnell cross.

Monaghan, the only side to have beaten Sligo in the league this season, were exposed at the back again on 21 minutes when Feeney struck once more, this time finishing from Sean Flannery’s knock down from a Kupono Low free-kick.

Jason McCartney added a third goal on 69 minutes when tapping in at the back post after Ciaran Foley had helped on O’Donnell’s cross.

Monaghan’s consolation goal came from a 77th minute free-kick from Keith Foy.

Flannery then cracked home the best goal of the game on 87 minutes with a stunning 35-yard shot.

    4-1

Just back from the match, great result.
Sligo played excellent football in the first half and took thier goals well.
Dont be fooled by the scoreline though,Monaghan got through us rather easily in both halfs and had they some one to finish their chances,we would have been lucky with a point.

    Team:
    Goals.
O'Hara-7/10.Pulled off some good saves but could have done better with their goal as he was covering that side of the goal from the freekick.

    Defence.
    Creataro7/10,Low7/10,Burns7/10,McNamara5/10.
Defence was a bit shacky today and were lucky to only concide one.

    Midfield.
    Faz8/10,O'Donnell7/10,O'Grady9/10,Feeney7/10.
Wide men were brilliant today,Faz and O,donnell passed the ball really well. O'Grady was inspirational and even gave Sean Conner a mouthful to keep him out of trouble.Feeney scored a good second goal also.

    Forwards.
    Flannery9/10,Foley7/10.
Foley and Flannery ran their socks off and flannery got his reward with a spectacular 30yard strike late on.

Was McTiernan on the bench or is he carrying a knock?

He must be injured or away because he was not on the bench or even in the stands.
BTW,i think Paul Brown as at the match. He was been escorted around by rovers officals.....Stunning Bird on his arm aswell, hope he signs so we can look at her every week.

Great goal from Flannery. Did Feeney get a touch on the first goal?

    That's more like it Rovers!!

    What a result.
Feeney took both his goals very well. He's playing very well now his confidence has improved no end. Doing a wonderful job alongside conor in the middle. Young Jayo's goal was a peach, talk about being in the right place at the right time. Wonderful, I'm delighted for him as Gerry Carr has being known to say. And what about Sean Flannery ... oh ye of little faith. Boy did he bury that shot or what. I sang all the way home ... roll on de town!!

Only downer in my opinion was we conceded yet another goal from a set-piece. Rovers had seven players in the 'wall'. O Hara's positioning behind the 'wall' was very poor, wh's coaching this lad
I heard Burns ask O Hara prior to the kick being taken did he require a player on the post. Bad decision not having one in hindsight. Super free kick though by their number seven. Ralf cretated the space as he jumped out of the wall.

But as I say, only downside, but then we can allow one in when we score four

    Thumbs up

Brilliant game and very nice to see the team appreciating the fans and talking to them in the clubhouse afterwards. Great support down from Sligo too, great atmosphere. Was there any Monaghan fans there at all? . I think the first goal was definetely O'Donnell's and not Feeney's. What a goal by Flannery. Hope we play this well each week!

    Superb

By fa and away the best performance by any team at CHP this year. Your n0.7 O'donnell was a class attack, he ripped us apart all day. Would be happy to see Sligo go up becuase of any of the teams we have seen, they were the best organised.

Best of luck and lads if ya take away three points also take away the knowledge that given your support ye should have a bar.

We'll see ya back in the showgrounds, we always travel better anyway
