    Wexford FC v Galway

Wexford ultimately found the power and pace of Galway too much to handle in which was an enjoyable game of football in Ferrycarrig tonight. With Jack Doherty suspended and Kyle Robinson injured while training midweek, Wexford manager, Ian Ryan, started with young Evan Farrell up front and went with Jimmy, Kevin, Lorcan, Paul, Cian, Anto, Karl F, Evan, Foxy, Conor and Jack M. Galway were on top, in terms of chances, for most of the game, but surprisingly, Wexford went in a goal to the good at half-time with one of their only chances of the first half. On 14 minutes, a good Galway move led to a decent chance, but the Galway forward couldn’t make contact inside the Wexford box. Midway through the half, Galway had two goals ruled out for offside. Galway’s Thomas Oluwa then hit the side-netting after making a break down the left wing for Galway. Wexford’s first decent effort on the Galway goal came on 40 minutes when Evan Farrell’s shot was athletically held by Kearns in the Galway goal. Then, with the last kick of the half, Jack Moylan was fed inside the Galway area and a smart turn enabled him to beat the Galway defender and Jack finished nicely past Kearns to put Wexford a goal ahead at half-time.

Wexford started decently enough in the second half with Paul Cleary having a shot blocked for a corner and Jack Moylan hitting a shot over the Galway bar immediately afterwards. On nine minutes, Wexford had the chance to smack the ball into touch but didn’t and the ball was recycled by Galway to Podge Cunningham who had come on as a half-time sub, and he drilled a powerful shot past Corcoran and it was 1-1. Galway continued to apply pressure with Corcoran making a couple of good saves to keep the score at 1-1. Subs for Wexford about the hour mark were Thomas Considine and Karl Manahan. Cunningham then pounced on a rebound from Jimmy Corcoran to make it 2-1 for Galway and then the Galway forwards fluffed what looked like an easy goal chance. Wexford then went close with two efforts which were both deflected around the Galway post before Galway’s third came from Doherty with another conversion of a rebound from a Jimmy Corcoran save. The impressive Jack Moylan then went close to getting his second before Galway hit the post with another effort on goal to leave Galway gaining a deserved three points at the end. Later subs for Wexford were Harry Groome, Donal Porter and Tyler Dunphy. Crowds improving also with about 250 at the game.
