    WYW v Cork

Wexford completed what was a reasonably routine victory against Cork in good conditions in Ferrycarrig this evening. Wexford started with Kiev, Nicola, Lauren D, Della, Edel, Kylie, Aisling, Aoibheann, Rossi, Ellen and Sinead. Wexford had a tonic of a start when, with virtually their first attack, Kylie Murphy curled a nice shot past Abby McCarthy in the Cork goal to put Wexford a goal ahead. Wexford largely controlled possession for the rest of the half with McCarthy in the Cork goal making a number of decent saves to keep the scoreboard from ticking over. On 9 minutes, a great flick by Edel Kennedy put Kylie Murphy in the clear, but McCarthy in the Cork goal was able to block Kylie’s effort. After the waterbreak, an even better save from McCarthy prevented Sinead Taylor from lobbing the Cork keeper. As Wexford went on yet another attack, Kylie Murphy added to her tally by chipping the ball into the far corner of the Cork net. Two efforts by Ellen Molloy, one from a free which went over and another which McCarthy was able to grab, ended the half with Wexford in control of the game. 2-0 to Wexford at half-time.

Second half followed much the same pattern with Wexford generally in control. However, Cork did threaten more in this half and eventually managed to record a goal of their own. Cork’s McCarthy firstly pulled off a spectacular double save to keep Kylie Murphy from registering her hat-trick. On 12 minutes, Wexford made the game safe when Sinead Taylor drilled a fine effort with her right foot past McCarthy. On 14 minutes, the only goal that McCarthy might have done better with occurred when Ellen Molloy smacked a really good volley at McCarthy and although the latter was able to get both hands to it, McCarthy was unable to stop the ball from dropping behind her over the goal-line. 4-0 to Wexford. Subs for Wexford then began as Lynn Craven, Lolly Conlon, Freya De Mange, Maeve Williams and, making her first-team debut, Emma Walker, all came on for Wexford. Cork then got a goal back when a Cork forward had a decent effort which Kiev Gray could only half-block and it continued on to hit the Wexford net. 4-1 to Wexford at full-time with best for Wexford being Kylie Murphy, Edel Kennedy, Aoibheann Clancy and Ellen Molloy.
