    Wexford FC v Cork

Wexford had to be satisfied with a share of the points in an entertaining 0-0 draw in Ferrycarrig Park this evening. However, Wexford had benefitted from a man advantage for the whole of the second half but had been unable to break down a stout 10-man Cork defence. Wexford started with Jimmy, Kevin, James, Paul, Karl M, Karl F, Foxy, Jack D, Conor, Kyle and Jack M. Cork started the better and won a number of corners early on. From the third Cork corner on ten minutes, the Wexford defence were stretched to clear the ball off their own goal-line. A fussy referee had given Jack Doherty of Wexford a yellow for dissent on four minutes and Alec Byrne of Cork a yellow for a pull-back on 15 minutes. Wexford then got their passing game going and, on 21 minutes, Jack Moylan had a free deflected over the Cork crossbar. On 24 minutes, Jack Doherty shot over the Cork bar and then Cork had two efforts on goal, with the second being grabbed by Jimmy Corcoran in the Wexford goal on the second attempt. Wexford’s Karl Fitzsimons then forced McNulty to make a fingertip save before, on 41 minutes, Alec Byrne got a second yellow for possibly an illegal follow-through after a tackle and Cork were down to ten players. 0-0 at half-time.

The additional space afforded to Wexford allowed them to dominate possession in the second half, but Wexford found it hard to create the killer chance as Cork funnelled everybody behind the ball. Wexford’s Jack Moylan had a decent effort on the Cork goal and Jack Doherty, on the stretch, couldn’t keep his connection with a Wexford cross underneath the Cork crossbar. Only chance for Cork in the second period came from a near-post flick which went a yard wide. Wexford subs during this half included Anto Dolan, Evan Farrell, Harry Groome, and Dan Dobbin. So, 0-0 at full-time with the Wexford forwards of Jack Doherty, Kyle Robinson, Jack Moylan and Paul Fox impressing despite not being able to notch the required goal. Maybe, 200 at the game.
