2012 was probably a better contest in fairness, certainly had more drama, as did the epic 2006 decider. not that that means anything when you lose. We were a much better team in 2014.
I’ve probably had enough of Derry in finals tbh. Three times in eight seasons is probably enough, not that I’d turn it down if it was offered now.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.
That was the final though (wasn't it at the Brandywell too ?), so was the last stage. And wasn't that the season they pipped Derry to the league on just goal difference ? So it's not like there was much between you.
You'll face a lot tougher opponents than Drogheda going forwards if you're going to win the 2021 FAI Cup.
Treaty 0-0 Dundalk at half-time.
Unsurprisingly, Dundalk with more of the ball, but not doing too much with it. Their Korean player forced a good near post save from the Treaty keeper, and Treaty also brought a good save out of Abibbi with a shot from the edge of the the area.
How many supporters were allowed in to the Markets Field?
200 I think, I'm not one of them.
McEleney only on but already looks shattered!
Yeah, was the final, just making the point that it’s not that easy to beat 9 men who can defend as a unit and used a talented Shels side as an example. We played better against 11 men and I’m seeing us controlling parts of games now with possession which was alien to us under Devine. No cutting edge there at all though.
Drogs have been above us in the table all year. We should be underdogs for all games in the cup if facing tougher opponents. The cup of recent years shows that the best teams get to the final, therefore on that basis , I do agree Derry will struggle.
As Irishmen we dilute our sense of nation by depending on the English to bring us our balls
This performance is more like early season from Dundalk, very static, lacking energy, no pace to passing/play. Treaty have been very organised which is no surprise considering how they have done in their 1st year in the league and little easy given up at Markets Field. That said Dundalk's fitness etc should have been made count. We could have done without the extra 30mins but other than it give encouragement to Treaty, does the extra 30 sap energy for a Thursday game? Frustrating stuff but Im not that surprised by Treaty's resilience.
Treaty 0-1 Dundalk AET, McEleney with the goal from a deflected shot.
Decent performance, surprised how slow and clunky Dundalk were.
Liffey Wanderers v Cobh Ramblers in the UCD Bowl today for some reason. Anyone know why? Ground regulations have never been a concern in the Cup before
Bangor were supposed to be the home team for our tie but the game was played in Longford.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
College Corinthians v Bohs was in Turners Cross, so that could actually be it alright. Except for the non-League derbies, which wouldn't need it
Sligo 1-1 Cork at halftime is quite unexpected
Cork 2-1 up after an hour in Sligo, way to go yet but maybe a shock on the cards….
Cork win 3-2,huge surprise given the current status of both clubs….
Yup. Upset of the round for sure. Only upset if you don't count UCD v Shels as one (and I don't know enough about the non-League derbies)
I presume the draw for the second round is a state secret as usual?
Tuesday at 6.30 on 2FM I believe,same as the last round…
