    Wexford FC v Bray

Another blank in terms of points secured but a performance with lots of encouragement by Wexford in Ferrycarrig tonight as they pushed Bray very hard in a decent game. Despite both sides giving it a go, chances were hard to come by and Wexford never really created the killer chance to get the draw. But Bray’s goal came from a slip by a Wexford defender so there wasn’t that much between the teams. Ian Ryan’s first match as Wexford manager saw him starting with Jimmy, Paul, James, Luke, Karl F. Karl M. Conor, Jack C, Paul Fox, Jack D and Kyle. Bray started the better and were just offside in the first minute and then followed that with an early corner. First decent effort by Wexford on the Bray goal came on seven minutes but Kyle Robinson’s effort was an easy save for Maher in the Bray goal. After a Bray shot was deflected over the Wexford crossbar, Wexford began to come into the game from about the twenty minute mark, with Jack Doherty almost finding a Wexford player free in the Bray area on 29 minutes. With four minutes to go in the half, Bray had a shot deflected over the Wexford crossbar which looked like a corner but nothing was given. Then, with two minutes to go, Luke Turner, who had a storming game, slipped on the greasy turf when trying to close down the Bray winger and a simple cross found Doyle of Bray in the clear who buried it top corner to put Bray ahead at the break.

Wexford played the better football in the second period but never really looked like beating Maher in the Bray goal. On eight minutes, Wexford pinged the ball around the Bray box but couldn’t furnish a good chance. Wexford subs during the second half included Lorcan Fitzgerald, Success Edogun, Evan Farrell and Harry Groome. Best half-chance for Wexford fell to Evan Farrell with eight minutes to go with a free header, but he hadn’t an awful lot of the Bray goal to aim at and it was cleared off the Bray goal-line. So game ended 1-0 to Bray with Wexford putting in a very decent shift with Luke Turner, Paul Fox and Jack Doherty outstanding for the home side. For Bray, Conor Clifford pulled the strings in midfield. Despite getting no points in the first round of matches, Wexford will probably head towards the second round in reasonable spirits after two decent performances and with a new management team. 1-0 to Bray at full-time.
