    WYW v Bohemians

Wexford continued their impressive form of late with a comprehensive win against a hard-working Bohemians side in good conditions in Ferrycarrig this evening. Wexford started with Maeve, Nicola, Lauren D, Edel, Lynn, Lynn Marie, Ellen, Aoibheann, Kylie, Ciara and with Aisling Frawley up front. Wexford took control right from the start and Wexford’s Ellen Molloy had a volley in the first minute which went just wide. On ten minutes, Ellen Molloy had another chance close in but Coombes in the Bohs goal was able to smother the effort. The first goal came to Wexford on the quarter hour mark and a quality goal it was as Ciara Rossiter who had the freedom of the left wing all evening, powered in a cross where Kylie Murphy, arriving late into the Bohs area, smashed home a bullet header and it was 1-0. Wexford had an untidy spell after this and Bohs had their only real effort of the half with a free from just outside Wexford’s area, but Maeve Williams managed to get strong hands to push the free away and it remained 1-0. Just on the half-hour mark, Wexford went two ahead when Kylie Murphy was fouled inside the Bohs area and Kylie knocked the spotter past Coombes. A worry for Wexford a minute later was to see Ellen Molloy limping off to be replaced by Lauren Kelly but hopefully it’s only a bit of ankle bruising following a foul. With seven to go in the half, Aisling Frawley was fed a through ball and she knocked it past Coombes to make it 3-0 and it remained like that at half-time with Wexford largely untroubled.

Wexford brought on Kim Flood at half-time and made it 4-0 with ten minutes gone when a Bohs defender deflected a Ciara Rossiter cross past her own keeper. It was 5-0 on 16 minutes when Kim Flood converted a free far-post header from a Wexford corner. A rare piece of sloppiness at the Wexford back allowed Erica Burke to finish neatly for Bohs past Maeve Williams and it was 5-1. Subs for Wexford during this period included Vanessa Ogbonna, Lolly Conlon and, making her debut, Katie O’Regan. Two further goals for Wexford followed when Lauren Kelly stabbed the ball home following a quality free-kick by Ciara Rossiter and Lauren Kelly again when she was found by a brilliant crossfield pass by Aisling Frawley to make it 7-1 at full-time. So very comfortable for Wexford who now have a two-week break before they face Shels away in what should be a cracker. Best for Wexford were Maeve Williams in goal and a very solid defence but what caught the eye in the second half was the midfield with extraordinary industry from Edel Kennedy, Lynn Marie Grant who already looks like the find of the season and Aoibheann Clancy who is showing composure at a level way beyond one so young. 7-1 to Wexford at full-time.
