Just read in a rag here in Frankfurt that you will not be allowed near a ground for next year's World Cup, should your attire be advertising a non-FIFA advertiser. So should Ireland qualify for next year, leave your Eirecom shirts at home, or you'll be forced to either take it off, or fasiling that turn it inside out. Bow down to the mighty sponsors.
Just shows that FIFA cares about the people that really matter in football.

Can this be true? It sounds insane that you would not be allowed to wear your own national team shirt to the WC.
How can they impose such rules on people walking the public streets?

Shows FIFA cares more about sponsor money than the fans.
They want to give exclusivity to 21 official sponsors, so will be banning all club shirts. So that could mean Ireland too, due to the presence of Eirecom.

In Japan I heard of several fans with tricolours displaying the name of their local pub having their flags taken down / refused access because it was considered advertising.
I've heard of this sort of thing going on since USA 94 ...the Saudis are pretty precious about their flag and objected to their flag being used on a whole raft of official sponsors merchandise. It caused (holy) war at the time.

That can't be right, surely. That would imply that if your country's jersey was made by anyone but Adidas, you wouldn't be allowed near the ground?
My take on that is that they will ask people to remove any attire featuring rival sponsorships to those of the official sponsors, i.e. someone wearing a 'VISA" sponsored jersey will be asked to remove it as Mastercard is an official sponsor. Another example would be Spanish fans wearing the "Toyota" sponsored Valencia jerseys, i'd imagine the official motor company partner would want them banned....
I can't see how Irish fans would be asked to remove their Eircom tops as Eircom is an Irish company that only really deals in the Irish marketplace.
What if your jersey smells of a sponsor i.e. Budweiser?

surely to god fifa have no right to ban a particular advertisement from outside the grounds. inside they might have a point regarding flags bearing pub names (which im totlaly agianst-sticking the name of your local on your national flag is desecrating the flag afai concerned). but banning someone for bearing an oléolé national shirt coz it says eircom is surely against the law.what a bunch of knobends.if this is true i hope blatter chokes to death on his budweiser
