The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

"The contract follows the national senior team’s recent victory over the Faroe Islands and the possibility of qualifying for the World Cup in Germany 2006."

There's confidence for you. Lucozade were holding out untill the win over the Faeroe's.

Will RTE allow interviews with Irish players who might be having a drink of Lucozade after an international game???

SOCCER DIGEST : No FAI problems over stadium cash

THE FAI will not dip into its own reserves to pay its €33m contribution towards Lansdowne Road's redevelopment.

The government have committed €191m to the creation of a 50,000 all-seater stadium on the banks of the Dodder with the IRFU paying €68m.

With the government's money being spent first, the two associations don't have to stump up their cash until near the completion of the project, giving the FAI almost four years to raise their €33m.

Chief-executive John Delaney is confident that the FAI, which has an annual turnover of €20m, will be able to generate their contribution through the sale of corporate boxes and premium seats on a 10-year basis.

It is envisaged that there will be 10,000 seats in the stadium aimed at the corporate and premium sector with 1,000 attached to boxes.

The sale of tickets won't start until planning permission is secured which Delaney hopes will be by the end of 2006 thus allowing work to start by early 2007 and finish within 24 months.

Raising the €33m will be the responsibility of the the association's Commercial Department under new Commercial Director Peter Buckley. The deal was unveiled yesterday when Lucozade Sport signed up until the end of the 2010 World Cup - for €2m over five years - to continue as the association's official sports drink. Eighty per cent of the money will be diverted towards the Technical Development Plan while €300,000 will go towards the Eircom League budget.

Apart from the television deals with Setanta and TG4, the FAI's sponsorship announcements this year have all been renewals of existing deals but Delaney hinted that new partners will be announced in the coming months.

The technical development plan is run by Packie Bonner and is for training children (apparantly 50 full time coaches are being hired). The government is keeping a close eye on it so I wouldn't be too worried.
