I see Ireland at 256/1 at Pinnacle. Are you sure you're reading the odds correctly? I'd also like to see the group odds. Obviously Canada and Australia will both get at least six points from the Ireland and Nigeria matches.
I think 20,000 is the US way of writing 200/1 or something like that. It assumes you bet $100, what your winnings would be (or how much you’d be +)
It is true, my mistake. I'm a little too familiar with how gambling odds work, just misread the post. 200/1 would be good value for Ireland to get more than three points in the group.
There's no given that Australia beat Ireland tomorrow. The last meeting between the sides was less than two years ago where Ireland won 3-2 in Tallaght.

True, although the Australian team is probably stronger than the one in Tallaght. And home crowd etc. But I agree it's not a given. I think we need to score to snag a draw as the Aussies are strong going forward.
I am in Sydney and going to the game tonight. There appears to be plenty of Irish in town and hopefully they'll be heard among the 80,000 expected tonight.
Enjoy the game. The Australians will come out all guns blazing. I think we need to weather the initial storm and then grow into the match. We will certainly frustrate the Aussies who like to counter attack as we play so defensively. A win would be brilliant as the hype over here resembles what you see in England when their teams play. Nauseating! Go the girls in green!
We've had time to think what this game will look like. If you look at Ireland’s games lately against top teams, there’s no coincidence that have been really, really strong at the beginning of both the first and second halves. But also it's no coincide that they’ve conceded goals late in each half - especially when it comes to tactics and behaviours of one or two players that we’ve identified.

Canada-Nigeria finished 0-0 earlier this morning, with Nigeria having 19 year old midfielder Abiodun sent off. It's not a bad result for us, it still means we have to get something off Canada on Wednesday.
I only watched the first game in earnest, I thought the team were solid in defense, had midfield bite but that's where it ended, more madness than method with what passed for offensive play. It looked like there was no plan for selecting the opportune time to go forward and if the counterattack was on, how to get up in support and keep shape..
I could only half watch the game v Canada, I didn't think the Canadians were close to being the team that they hyped up to be but I didn't see enough as to how Ireland let the second half go. It's the first tournament, gained a misery point. However failing to impress at a WC finals is not the end of times, close the book on it, move on to the nations league in september and then secure qualification for the 2025 Euros.
Even if this is based on the first game, Ireland's play was consistent with that view across all three matches. They valued defensive shape over counterattack opportunity. I didn't see a lot of their qualification campaign but 4 goals conceded in qualification and 6 clean sheets suggests sitting deep is a core part of the team (apologies if I am stating the obvious here because I don't think anyone expected them to go all out, gung-ho, in attack). When they needed to get a goal (when they were behind vs Aus and Canada; and when Nigeria were sitting deep themselves happy with the draw) there wasn't really a Plan B beyond being defensively sound.
Still, a credible first WC campaign and they won many friends over here in Australia with their play (tough hard tackling play appeals to the Australia psyche as much as it does to the Irish!) and the fans, as always, gave a great account of themselves.

They played really well against Australia and the penalty was a bit soft.
That was the game plan and we were shown up in the end but did ok with a limited pool of talent.
Pauw was the darling of Irish soccer a few months ago. Now people have the knives out.
