    Shels will have 'em imo

It's just typical that after years of no fixtures, the first year of the Setanta Cup....

Shels to win handy, with Glens out of season.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

shels should fly through and win both games. anything else would be terrible IMO. We have a bigger squad and should be fully fit

Based upon the Setanta results I wouldn't be too confident of that.

Ya but the IL will be out of season and Shels might get their arses out of this slump they are in. Shels record against IL teams was W1 D1 L1 with that loss in their current slump. I'd go for a Shels win overall, but not by much.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

As I said in the topic on the European draws: very unattractive tie for me personally as I was hoping for a real travel, but on the field it should work out fine. Though in our current shape and with hardly any self confidence on the field, Glens certainly will feel like they have a chance. Will be a close tie. I'd be gutted if we go out with only a travel as far as Belfast this season...

Knowing Shels, they'll play their home game at Lansdowne again. It's Shels' home ground in Europe.

I look forward to the trip to Romania, and hopefully we get a good pay-day in the third round and a nice UEFA Cup bonus. Going out vs Glens without a serious travel would be a huge disappointment... Best possible draw for the third round would be Everton or Rangers probably, $ $ $ (how come Rangers are not directly qualified for the CL anyway ?!)

I very much doubt it Shells will get through to the third round but they will ease through to the second though.

Because whilst Celtic have been qualifying on a regular basis for CL football in recent years, Rankers and the other jokers in Scotland keep getting knocked out at the first time of asking (Aberdeen vs Bohs anyone? ). Hence a low co-efficient. Hence the SPL teams having to pre-qualify.

And Gerrit, I can only presume that you're joking about Rankers being one of the best possible third round draws for Shels. Can you imagine the mayhem that would be unleashed with some of their "finest" being let loose in Dublin? Think again...

the glens are a decent team but given shels recent good results in euro competition i would have to fancy them to go through. + as the game will be played on either the 12th or the 13th of july half the glens team will probably be nursing hangovers. that said , the glens are a resiliant bunch and should not be underestimated .

i grew up on the lisburn road close to windsor park & followed the blues as a kid but i dont really follow local football these days "except for my beloved norn iron" but i really hope these two ties can project football north & south in a really positive light , despite the scenes at the oval a month or two ago irish league football "iam told" has come on a lot in terms of peoples attitudes & as long as the games are remembered for the football then everybody is a winner .

    Well said.

@ Plastic Paddy: my mistake, I did not think of security issues and was just thinking "Rangers: big support ---> $$$ for Shels"
You're right, probably this would not be the best draw.

But even as a Celtic fan, you should call the club as it is, Rangers and not Rankers. It could stir up the whole Glaswegian issue where unfortunately politics are involved, and we've seen recently what it leads to... Besides, if the rest of the SPL are 'joke sides', why did one of those jokers win the league then ?

You spot my weakness. I'd love to claim it as a speeling mishtook but what it does is unleash my - ahem - bigotry where Rangers and more crucially some of their "fans" are concerned. My issue.

Some of the Glens fans on this board, and you yourself Gerrit, occasionally put me to shame. My misfortune.

To Big P, Stanley Chan and even Lux Interior - as the famous quote goes, "I may not agree with what you say but I defend your right to say it". Please post again hereabouts by all means. You're all very welcome.

No need to shame there, PP, I mean, football is emotions so it's not unnormal that a Celtic fan has certain issues with Rangers. Just pointing it out saying we had some bad debates recently because of the Glaswegian derby, and that we may need some extra carefulness to avoid it happening again.
