Well done PP! Shame on you Hamish! Jesus that's some puffing, however, I can imagine that during some Ireland games, especially the last 30 mins or so, one tends to sh!te themselves completely and I can't blame u for puffing your guts out....

Gotta say, people who've never smoked listing off reasons not to smoke is pretty pointless. Every smoker knows the health risks, financial etc; and when I was a smoker people telling me to stop just made me more determined to carry on out of spite.

You can't guilt people into stopping - the Government has been trying that for years. Only the smoker themselves can decide when is right for them...

I know you mean well, but believe me it doesn't help.

btw Martin and the smoking ban actually delayed me stopping. I was attempting, but once he introduced the ban I was "I'm not being told what to do by you corrupt fookers" and decided I wouldn't be part of his "success" stats...

The fact that you're not prepared to stop right now tells me that you're not really committed to stopping at all.
You may as well not bother and just continue to smoke away as usual.

I must be one of the lucky ones, as I just stopped in the end. I had stopped a few times prior, but each time starting and stopping, I found the smell and taste just more disgusting. In a way I do miss it, you know when out with friends, especially in the pub, or in the morning relaxing first thing whilst having a coffee. Still would not mind the odd cig, but don't think I'd enjoy it quite as much as I used to.

Not meaning to be, just must be in my head at this stage.... Was actually planning on getting a refresher session as I found the last week tough (lots of drink/bad time of the year for me personally), but after this thread I think I'm okay

I think its right that people quit in their own time. Im not a smoker, never have been, but i know from friends how difficult it is to quit for some people.

Personally i will never smoke, purely because in the last 3 months I have seen the real damage it can do. Not only to the individual, but also their family and friends. Despite that im not gonna get on my high horse, its not my business. We all know the risks, as we do with drinking and drugs.

All i will say is i wish the best of luck to anyone trying to quit. It really is worth it in the long run.

seriously though, dont smoke that many ciggies, just with a few pints, used smoke all the time but cut that out, must give up totally some time

Jesus Corky Boy, you're in bad form today - here and in the totty thread you're giving out to me

Understand you really but it worked that way for me before and I stayed off the fagarettes for FOUR years by picking a day and stopping. Everyone has their own way of doing it. I found the patch helpful that time as well and only used it for three days and forgot about it AND the fags!!!

Be patient Peadar - and to cheer you up I'll sing you a song.."where we sported and played...join in!!

Good luck giving up sir hamish. You seem like a strong-willed guy I'm sure you'll do fine. I just never plan on starting-probably the best strategy of all

Ahem, sorry? Peadar is getting old, that's why he is getting grouchy, sure you'd understand that wouldn't ya Hamish...? Heh heh. I think Macy was doing to Peadar ?? I understand Macy, I know yapping at someone doesn't make it easier for them to stop the fags, it would annoy them even more, but i just can't help myself, and if someone told me to give over, fair enough, i wouldn't be offended. I know people have to want to stop and maybe if i could help them reach that decision, I will always try....I just know so many people who died of smoking related cancers and it is just nasty. An unnecessary evil really is smoking.

Macy's an ok dude as is Peadar - just messing with them.

I kinda like the idea of being the elder Footieperson - reminds me of that REM video "Shiny Happy People" - y'know the old bloke in the corner smoking the pipe.

I'm not as old as him 'cos I look like Roger Glover, rock god. LOL
