Cost Of Living Continues To Rise...

A report published shows that Dublin is continuing to get more expensive at a faster rate than many other cities.

Following is a table of the top 10 cities in the Mercer Human Resource Consulting Cost of Living Survey.
I've added in Dublin, showing the last three years.

    Code:
    March 2005 March 2004 March 2003

London is 10 places above Dublin but the wages over here are much higher.
Makes depressing reading but it could be worse, I suppose.

No sign of Paris in the top 10. Whoever published this report must be a pioneer!

pa, those salaries are relative to the cost of living in london.

mercer are down in cork, the crowd that do those stupid surveys and get paid loads of money for doing nothing. i cant beleive how companies can make so much money on doing something so insignificant...but anyhow....

pa, most people i know here earn less than £20,000 which in london when you think of an average single train/tube journey going 2 miles down the road costs £3 is a rip off. a lot of people i know still live with their parents but they have to there is no way they could afford to rent. i can barely afford it!!!!

so at the end of the day you cant compare £38,000 and €38,000, because the cost of living is relatively the same.

for example the company i work for pay the exact same amount in england as they do in ireland i.e. a euro to a pound

Cost of Living surveys don't reveal much as need to take into account the tax rates both direct & indirect.

I would think single biggest cost factor in Dublin is housing. If you bought in say mid 90's will have low mortgage & high value asset.

I think wages in Dublin are reasonable enough again especially in IT but i think could get same if not more in UK outside London where cost of living woudl be well below Dublin.

Yeah, and that survey last week reckoned average price of was 3.65 or something Like to know where in Dublin their getting that from - certainly aren't too many (safe) places in and around the city centre.
