Shels on again. Should be a good match though.

Are you serious,Shells AGAIN FFS,the only thing that will soften the blow is seen them lose AGAIN.
Pats v Drogheda next friday Setanta too. At this rate they'll easily exceed the amount of games they planned to show.
Lads, absolutely no disrespect to any of the Dublin teams but Cork City lead the EL by eight points. Are the TV cameras so heavy that they can't find the transport big enough to bring them to Turner's Cross???And Derry are also right up there - why not a live game from the Brandywell too???
Agree totally, the only time the cameras will be out of dublin will be the final game at Turners Cross for the title deciderOriginally Posted by sirhamish

This is a bloody joke. $h€l$ muxt have been on more times than the rest of the clubs put together![]()
There should be a limit to the amount of times that a club can be shown. They should have waited a week and taken the cameras to the Brandywell for the North West derby.

i agree with you's aswell, dublin teams get to much coverage!! bohs got their first two games of the season on tv and havn't got a look in since! i think bohs v shels should have been on telly!! but apart from bohs cork and derry should be on the box as they are well up their this season and would be exiting to watch!
Dublin teams get the coverage because that's where most of the audience, such as it is, lives (and believe me, I would prefer to see other parts of the country take some of the pressure of 'progress', but that's a different story.)Originally Posted by sirhamish
But you're right about Cork. They are deserved league leaders by a stretch and play far more attractive football than Shels currently do. Not having them on is bizarre.
I wonder if this obsession with Shels was locked into Setanta's schedules at the start of the season, when everyone thought it was a cert that Ollie's chequeboook could buy the league (not to mention the fact that 'Money Can't Buy You Fans')?
Shels on TV this year.
v Cork City Setanta Cup
v Cork City Setanta Cup
v Portadown Setanta Cup
v Portadown Setanta Cup
v Cork City League
v Shamrock Rovers League
v Derry City League
v Derry City FAI Cup
save the sheep shaggers bring back beheadings for waherford
Cork v Longford should be on TV next Friday. Both teams are in excellent form.
Crazy "decision" by Setanta. Especially stupid because the 2 treams only played in the cup last week. Drogs & Pats is now mid table clash so have to question how the FAI can allow a tv deal that is biased towards dublin teams. By this logic Setanta would continue to show dublin teams even if all in bottom half of the table. Since tv means greater exposure to team sponsors it seems to give dublin teams an unfair advantage.
Im sick of seen Shells, what are Setanta playing at?
I'm sick of us being on TV too, we haven't won a TV match since that Harris header![]()
Setanta should be showing more teams than just Shels yeah but two things, 1) At least they're showing the EL, and lots of it. They do a good job and are like Sky, always focus on the positive aspects of the game, it can only help promote the game and 2) This is a very important game for the destination of the title, you can't argue too much with the fact it's on.
They should be showing more of Cork though, the Longford game should be on instead of the game they're showing on delayed transmission, Pats v Derry I think.
No no, they sholdnt be showing Cork,we never live up to expectations when we're on tv. Cant understand why its Shels again (although you could argue its 2 v 3 in the league). I wouldnt mind them showing a Bohs game, they are on good form at the moment.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
anybody know of bars in santa ponsa that show setanta sports
The Setanta Sports shown outside of Ireland is different to the channel shown at home.Originally Posted by thecorner

Well there are two obvious commericial reasons for prioritising Dublin games.
For starters it's more cost effective as there's less to transport.
Then there's where there audience is based. Most Setanta users are in Dublin so it makes commercial sense to give greater coverage to games involving Dublin teams. Admittedly when it comes to league coverage it has so far been total coverage.
I'd rather see more games involving teams other than Shels but the priority for such games should lie with public service broadcasters like RTE and TG4. Setanta are a commercial organisation and must act in their own best interests.

Nonesense. Your logic works on a very basic level, but is deeply flawed.Originally Posted by Aberdonian Stu
It's makes commercial sense at a very basic level to prioritise Dublin teams, as the production costs are slightly lower. However - of the Top 4 teams in the league at the moment, only one is Dublin-based. Therefore, prioritising Dublin teams inevitably means that the quality of football being broadcast is lower, and its importance to the outcome of the Championship is arguably less impactful as well, which therefore makes the overall product being broadcasted less attractive to viewers- impacting their ability to retain viewers and subscribers. There's a reason why Sky get up off their arse and show lots of Man U and Liverpool games, for example, rather than sit in London and save a few quid by popping over to Craven Cottage (their nearest stadium) or Selhurst Park all the time.
I would also question your assumption that Setanta's main audience is in Dublin, as there's no evidence of this beyond an assumption based on demographics (the majority of the population lives outside Dublin anyway). Even if it was true - it appears that a lot of the Dublin-based people who receive Setanta do so for free with the likes of Chorus, whilst most areas outside of Dublin have to pay directly to access the channel. Therefore, the value to Setanta of their non-Dublin subscribers would therefore be much, much higher than their Dub-based ones. A very large number of their Dublin viewers will only be worth a tiny incremental increase in their ad revenue, and this will be difficult to measure/justify. The majority outside of Dublin who have to do direct subscription will be worth much more to their bottom line, in terms of their monthly subscription as well as a much more measurable incremental increase in ad revenue.
The bottom line is that Setanta have some sort of misguided love affair with Shels and are just too bloody lazy to leave the Pale for games. To be fair - facilities at grounds other than Tolka are probably not helping either, though
