Big call
I have high hopes for him too, and he was excellent for the U21's, but this move is pretty much make or break in terms of where his career goes next. He will have to excel to get noticed at Tondela, you'd think, and I truly wouldn't be surprised if he ends up staying around EFL1 level most of his career (which automatically puts him higher than Amond!). The thing he has going against him the most in terms of what level he can aspire to, he cant change.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
His size and injury history to this point are the main things that have held him back. If he can stay fit it'll be interesting to see how he does in a less physical league. That's why Im more enthusiastic about it, but he has to overcome the constant injuries first

I wonder is he behind Matt Healy and Dylan Watts in the pecking order now after Rovers' Conference League win midweek?![]()
Well I think, in truth, Shamrock Rovers are probably a better team than Tondela. So there's unlikely to be much in it either way. Hopefully Hodge does well in Portugal, but I wouldn't think he's in the top ten picks for us in the centre of midfield at this point in time - and that's in a part of the field that's far from our strongest.
Seems to be making no progress at all so far in Portugal - his last league start for Tondela was 10 games ago, since then he has made only four sub appearances for a total of 61 minutes of football. Has played some cup games too but mostly losses, no goals or assists over there yet.
Did I read correctly that he has a four year deal in Portugal? Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Derry or similar within a year or two even so.
