can someone tell me the following types of birds from my description as i saw them at home and have never seen one of them before yesterday my brother said its a type of crow, but im not sure:
the 1st one was greay bodied with black wings, the wing span was certainly longer than that of a crow, and it looked a bit bigger than a pigeon body wise. or it could have been grey winged with a black body, cant fully remember but am almost sure its the first one.
the second was two black birds flying very high, with long thin necks, and a wide wingspan, flying in unison they were fully black and a lot bigger than a crow, it wasnt a crane, as ive seen these before it would be in between a crane and a magpie in size i suppose.
i always get fascinated with animals ( of any kind ) that i dont know, in most cases its most animals i see!! anyone able to help me out? i cant find anything in google with my descriptions.

the closest thing i can think it looked like was a mix between a hooded crow and a wood pigeon, my brother said a hooded crow, but i dont think that was it either.

Talking about birds, you don't see many swallows around now at this time of year, there was a time when it was a true sign of Summer, now you only see the odd one or two that seem to have got lost
,it was only a matter of time before they copped on to the Irish Summer weather

Sure they don't come until July normally, do they?Originally Posted by Dublin12

Looks like you've copped onto to it as well since your location is Singapore.Originally Posted by Dublin12

i remember my father getting annoyed at me cos i knocked a swallows nest once, he never got annoyed at much but that really annoyed him. i spose after making that journey to breed it was pretty bad of me to do that.
anyhow there are plenty of swallows in our shed again, the place where i knocked one years ago. do the same ones come back?? because they literally create the nest in teh exact same spot. swallows must also fly at some speed.
pa, thats not the birds i saw.

If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
just in case anyone was interested ( i emailed the bird watching society of ireland):
"Your descriptions are fine, the first is Hooded Crow, and the second are
Cormorants, sea birds flying to inland lakes no doubt.
Hope this helps.
Paul."
I never knew a hooded crow was a sea bird?![]()

"I don’t want to tempt fate, but Thierry Henry is not having one of his best nights." - RTE co-commentator Jim Beglin, minutes before TH struck the stunning winner.
