How many spectators ? 300 ?
Good win for the College. Two well taken goals from Tony McDonnell and Stephen Hurley and we are through to the last 16. More details to follow from another postee.
How many spectators ? 300 ?

Around 250-275 didn't count them myself but judging from a rough headcount done by one of our regulars at half-time. Some Supporters of both clubs are due back from the Faroes tomorrow.
From the snippets of commentary of the game from Brian De Salvo it sounded like Dublin City gave us a good enough game of it and had the best of it in the first half. Glad to see Hurley getting off the mark for the club and delighted to see another for Tony Mac. Now hpefully a nice draw against an intermediate or junior side in the next round.![]()
Theres no reason why we couldnt win it this year. We can hold our own against the likes of Cork, Shels and Derry so we could beat anyone on the day.
Bout the same as in Tolka from what i've heard...Originally Posted by Gerrit

Yeah, City dominated the first half hour till Hurley switched into the centre with Tony Mac & Dicker was moved out wide. Also Martin went up front & Pat MacWalter moved wide. We started creating chances from there. DC had a few chances in the second half but we pretty much dominated it. Tony Mac was lucky to get a second shot after his initial shot from about 4 yards was parried back to his feet & he stuck it away at tthe second time of asking. Hurleys goal was class. Played thru with a left to right ball from Robbie I think it was & Steven took it from about halfway inside the DC half ran it into the box & instead of blasting home opted for a delicate chip over the keeper & into the far corner. Class, & right in front of Brian Kerr who I said hello to for the second time in 3 days! Pleased with the win & agree we could be in with a shout for this cup.

Aberdonian Stu was allegedly writing a match report for this thread and the clubs website. Seeing as it has failed to make this thread,
Here's the College V Dublin City line-up for the FAI CUP game :-
Darren Quigely; Conor Kenna, Brian Shortall (replaced by Aidan Lynch 88), Alan McNally, Mick O'Donnell; Stephen Hurley, Gary Dicker, Tony McDonnell, Pat McWalter; Damien Dupuy, Robbie Martin
Was listening to the updates on RTÉ long-wave on Friday evening out in the Faroes - bit worried at half-time, but shortly into the second half, de Salvo was saying that we wer by far the more likely team to score - as it turned out. Potential banana skin, so glad to get fairly comfortably in the end. Think the quarters are live on telly, so only one good draw away!![]()
Martin Russell was interviews on RTÉ radio after the game - was asked about Hurley and where was he from. The reply - "He's not from Dublin - he's from down the country somewhere"!
Goals from Tony McDonnell and Stephen Hurley saw the Students progress into the last sixteen of the FAI Cup.
A crowd estimated at somewhere between 227 and 90,000 were put to sleep by a dull first half where both sides paid homage to the first half of international in midweek as College gave City a guided tour of their box but like the Faroes City lacked the firepower to put the ball in the net, although they undoubtedly had the better chances in the opening period.
The Students opted for a strategy of guess the left winger as first Dupuy, then Martin, and finally Patrick "I can't believe I'm a left winger" McWalter all played wide on the left in the opening period.
The only notable occurrence in a dreary first half was the apparent flatulence of the away fans who chose to opt for "noisy but odourless" rather than silent but deadly with the wails from their annoying plastic horns.
College asserted their control in the second half and finally got the breakthrough around the hour mark.
A cross from the left, which I'll credit to Micko as it seems a more likely bet than Podger and I was too bored to care, found the feet of Tony McDonnell who succeeded in firing the ball straight at the keeper. Sadly for McDonnell his attempt to fire the rebound over the bar from two yards out failed as the ball rocketed into the roof of the net and College were in front.
Stephen Hurley made the game safe a few minutes later when he chipped the keeper.
The game then descended into farce as players went for cups of coffee in order to stay awake and the ref was spotted with a pillow.
Full time was greeted with raucous cheers from the throngs in attendance, or perhaps not.

Colie how did Dicker do on the right? Thank God he took Hurley off the right, he's no winger that's for sure. Delighted to see his move in field gave him a goal. Good to see Lynch is back from injury too.
Any news on the long term crock list of Robbie Mac, Mahon and Anto Murphy?
Sounds like it was riveting stuff AS.![]()
A match for the ages.
When we scored our second a group of us started chanting "One team in Dublin" at the away support.

Not sure how many but they were definitely loduer.
Around fifty at least.
Can never tell with the hill side who's with what club as most folk by the fence aren't bedecked in club colours but they had a fair sized group in the middle of the stand.
Oh and they had a huge flag.

Aberdeen's Stu's report does not do justice to the two goals that were scored although the match, otherwise, was as he described, pretty uninspiring, although UCD looked like they might always score.
But the two goals were both real class.
The first was a good low cross from Padge from the left end line, after he had received a very slick pass from Micko. The cross was then dummied very neatly by Robbie Martin and that gave Tony Mac a clear shoot, which the goalie did well to stop but Tony made no mistake with the rebound.
The second goal was a pitch-length movement. Someone cleared it to Dupay who got it inside his own half. He controlled it and ran at the defence and had two options to pass. He choose to give it to Hurley who was running up in the inside right position. He got it about 30 yards out and when he got to the edge of the penalty area, he cheekily chipped it over the out-rushing goalie. It was just like the third Milan goal against Liverpool in the Euro Cup final.
UCD deserved the win, no question. Robbie Collins is fighting a losing battle as our only decent striker at this point. Although due to the lack of effort from those immediately around him, his talents are usually wasted as he sprints to keep long balls in play and win his team a corner or a throw...We were a far more dangerous prospect up-front while Michael Holt was there, setting people up and banging in the goals![]()
We need Keely to be shrewd and to find a Holtesque striker very soon, particularly as Dundalk are lashing in goals for fun. Godd luck to UCD in the Cup.
A surreal experience listening to updates on RTE long wave in the Faroes! It sounded like HF were on top in the first half but our defence was holding them out without too much trouble although Quigley had a decent save to make. Your man on the radio was saying that if anyone was going to score in the second half that it would be us (he didn't sound like he thought a goal was too likely though!).
Hurley's goal was quality by the sounds of it, looking forward to seeing it on EL Weekly. Was there a camera at the game?
Threads merged also.

We're not arrogant, we're just better.
What about Vaughan? De Salvo was waxing lyrical about him in his match updates. I thought he was your best signing before the season. Is he not working well with Collins? I'm glad you lads in the Faroes could get RTE because they've dropped the MW broadcast on RTE.ie.Originally Posted by Maynard
