Great stats Pineapple Stu,a few suprises i see![]()
This topic was making an appearance on the attendances thread, so I said I'd post a few stats at the one-third way of the season for anyone who wants to discuss them...
More clubs are giving official attendances now (Shels, Bohs, Cork, Limerick, Pat's and Galway at the last count), so the figures are getting more accurate. I'm aware that a couple of the figures are overstated, but at least we have an idea. 2003 seems to have been very overstated - only Derry (now doing well and more of their ground open), Drogheda (possibly overstated? Had some Drogheda fans suggest that to me anyway. Doing better on the pitch than two years ago as well), Shamrock Rovers (were they playing at 7:00 in 2003?) and UCD are up on two years ago. I've left in the 2003 figures, but they should be taken with a fair bit of salt.
The rise in the First Division is particularly impressive (not the size - just the fact there is a rise at all) as the two biggest teams last season (Bray and Harps), as well as UCD (top half attendance-wise) were promoted out of the division to be replaced by Dublin City (third last this season).

Good to see for all the abuse we get for being such bad supporters etc that we actually have the second best attendance even though we are not doing as well as in the past. I think as time goes on attendances will get more accurate, looking at some of the older years, some look a bit crazy.
2nd best "3 year average".Originally Posted by chippie0001
Will take chippie's idea and sort clubs by attendance as well...

Sorry, read that wrong.Originally Posted by dancinpants
I can''t speak for other clubs too much but crowds have been more or the same for last few years at Turners Cross. 2003 is probably higher as that was Dolans first season after we'd almost won every home game the previous season. Still a huge gap between 1st & 2nd with CCFC having 50% more than next place Derry.
Great to see we've shot up the tables! 11th to 7th in one year!!! Also, good to see that it seems overall more people are going to eircom League matches!![]()

Yeah there is a noticable difference in our crowds this season compared to the previous 2 seasons, good to see, but i also think that it has something to do with more away fans coming as well.Originally Posted by superfrank
Yeah and also because there's more Dub teams in the Premier then there were in the First. But it's obviously good for the club.Originally Posted by Roo69

How many Cork fans should we expect ?
there is a bus coming up and i think the four five one biys are sending one up aswell( correct me if wrong) and with the usuall good few people travelling in cars along with some of the exiles i think there should be a large city crowd there, as usuall![]()

I wonder who gave them those figures...!
It could be argued that Attendances holding their own in the last few years is success. Were numbers dropping before summer football?
No idea - no stats kept.
The EFS link above goes back to 1999/00 I think, but it's taken mainly from The Star and the old National League Statistics site and is missing a fair few games.
this is my first time on this site, quite impressive by the way
was just looking at the average attendances for the athlone games this year
and it was up in the high 400's, just wondering where this info comes from
as i go to all home games and i donthink they are getting crowds that big.
it would be great if they were
fair play to pineapple stu for compiling all this data, i met him in the faroes last week, great craic had by all![]()
From us, the fans. We make guesstimates and post them at the attendences thread at the top of the page. Stu then takes the most pessimistic one within reason and records them. Though a few clubs like Bohs, Pats and Cork give official attendences now.Originally Posted by loudy macloud
