It's not bad in fairness with two national papers giving good coverage. The star has 20 pages on a tuesday and the herald about 20 on a monday as well.
Local papers are good for the local sides also.

the star is good upto a point ,but it is mainly geared towards leinster/dublin and its not half biased, the local papers give good coverage, the limerick leader is excellent for local soccer but nationally the star coulod be more open

I think that FAI Junior cup Finals should be show live on TV, it would be just reward for the teams who have got this far in probably one of the biggest cup competitions (team entry wise) in the world

The national papers are great but they can only print what is sent to them. The Clare League has no PRO because the clubs dont think its important enugh to get someone foward for election so what they get is afew small notes with an odd visit which results in a photograph. The local paper, which I wont name in case they gain any free advertising from this site is an absolute joke and gets its editorial instructions directly from Croke Park which results in meagre coverage which may change,as per the past, when a second weekly will appear shortly.Currently ladies GAA and camogie TRAINING gets more coverage than football!!!!The Limerick papers are a credit as the coverage on all is excellent{roll on competition}THe Examiner(minus the Cork)do very little.

In all fairness, it would not be possible for National papers to give all leagues the coverage that the local papers can.

I was of the same opinion as you, that it is mainly geared towards Leinster/Dublin, but to be fair, there are so many teams and leagues in Dublin, that they do take up a lot of pages.

The star however did not mention the Junior Cup Final yesterday.

Bit odd, they could have done a preview.

    media coverage

The coverage of soccer in Mayo is quite good relative to other areas. Two of the three local papers, The Connacht Telegraph and the Mayo News give consistent coverage.
This week the Connacht did four pages (broadsheet) on Westport's final while the Mayo News did a twenty four page tabloid supplement.
The other paper, the Western People, just did a page.
The local radio, Mid west, does a fair bit too and all this is despite the fact that Gaelic football is the more popular sport in the county.
Galway city, where soccer is the main game, gets scant local paper coverage compared to GAA. Same could be said of Sligo town
