Probably says more about my mental state than the actual rule.
    That change starting next season?

Although the away goals rule has been of benefit in the likes of Pats knocking out Krylia Sovetov and so on, with our clubs generally performing much better at home than we do in away legs, it may actually benefit us. A 2-1 loss at home in the first leg or a 1 or 2-0 defeat away first suddenly becomes a lot more doable in the second leg for example

It'll be interesting to see the impact. It's hard to compare to prior years because presumably this'll impact the way future games play out. Obviously before you would chase a game when behind on away goals and you might concede another, whereas now you can keep things tight and go to extra time.

Going off rsssf, I make it the LoI's record in away goals is -

    Bohs v Omonia 1978 - A first - won
    Athlone v Copenhagen 1981 - A first - lost
    Rovers v Linfield 1984 - A first - lost
    Cork v Cwmbran 1993 - A first - won
    Bohs v Minsk 1996 - H first - lost
    UCD v Kyustendil 2000 - H first - lost
    Bohs v Aberdeen 2000 - A first - won
    Pat's v Rijeka 2002 - A first - won
    Pat's v Ghent 2002 - A first - lost
    Shels v KR 2004 - A first - won
    Cork v Djurgardens 2005 - A first - won
    Bohs v Riga 2008 - A first - lost
    Pat's v Krylya Sovetov 2009 - H first - won
    Pat's v IBV 2012 - H first - won (aet)
    Dundalk v FH 2016 - H first - won
    Pat's v Jeunessa Esch 2016 - H first - won
    UCD v Dudelange 2015 - H first - won

So 11 wins and 6 defeats, and a five-match winning run means we're probably due a couple of defeats 6-4 when we've been away first, and 5-2 when we've been at home first, but I'm not sure that's statistically significant enough to draw conclusions from.

I'd say it'd benefit the bigger clubs because (a) UEFA and (b) if you're the underdog you typically don't want to go another 30 minutes. We're typically underdogs in Europe, so it's probably bad.

2-0 up against BATE was hell knowing that one goal overturns a match we were dominating - until Benson put it to bed in the rain!

Hi there from Slovakia. Good time to play Slovan, they have a new manager doing a bit of rebuild of their squad. Despite promises of big budget the new singnings so far have been underwhelming. That said Rovers have to attack in Bratislava. Parking the bus against some of these skillful foreign players of slovan would be costly. Just go for it Shamrocks, they look slow and shaky at the back.

On the other hand, Stevie O'Donnell's goal out in Budapest effectively killed the game there. Fella has been through both extremes!

I couldn't find any information about these games anywhere. They don't appear in either Bohs or Rovers list of fixtures, nor on the BBC list of next week's games. Maybe they're not actually happening?

...likewise, on RTE football ('soccer') website. Champions League and Europa League: 'no fixtures available'. No mention of Europa Conference at all.

We’re doing a paid stream for the home game. Can’t see too many neutrals buying it.

Looking at the away goals thing and this new ECL, whatever interest the general public had in LOI games and/or LOI games in Europe I think this effectively kills it. THe odd big tie against a decent European opponent generated a bit of talk around the country, now its much less likely these ties will occur and therefore interest in playing some random Eastern European team will not whet the appetite.

Hopefully the money that is generated for the clubs will make up for it

Bohs have announced that home euro keg on 15 July going ahead with 6k capacity.
1600 members/ st holders get their tickets on line tomorrow
20 euro per ticket general admission from Saturday, but tickets have to be bought in pairs for covid reasons although not clear why that is.
    Should get 5k crowd.

Good money spinner that, 100-120k if it’s a crowd between 5 and 6 thousand. Surely there will be a huge appetite there for that game with it being Bohs first appearance at the aviva at last, their first European game in Dublin in nearly a decade and not to mention fans first game back in a year and a half

I wouldn't think it's cheap to run a game in the Aviva. Are the FAI charging rent?
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Even if Bohs made about 30k-40k out of it after costs, that'll go a long way to paying for the away leg.

Presume Bohs are giving their ST holders and members a discounted or free ticket for this?

Will be free for 1600 STs and members and probably a few hundred free for journos , officials FAI Covid compliance etc.
30 k is about the most that will come out of that fixture Nigel.

In fairness, UEFA prize money will pay for the second leg.

Home gate receipts are an added bonus, especially in covid times.

Presumably done some sort of deal, as it helps them to have test events there this month
