maybe saying Beckenbaur is going a bit too far, however, Peadar, can you honestly say that at this point in time that Deccie would be in your ideal starting XI? He hasnt performed that well at all in recent times. I wouldnt say get rid of him completely, but i wouldnt have him in my first team squad either.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

j'accuse!
I think that Deccie is the only natural leader in the team. You can argue that he is past it and that he hoofs the ball too much. But hes still not abad player, give him one more seson until someone like Damien O' Rourke is ready to step into the breach.
Champions!
yes yes he ishes still not abad player
j'accuse!
No no hes not, hes an old player not a bad player. we need him.
Champions!
I may not start him but that doesn't mean that I don't want him in the squad. There is a difference.Originally posted by GWA

Deccie was a great player, and went in hard. He earned his nick name and it will be hard to replace him, but his time is up and he has to go.
Can you all stop b!tch fightin' over him.
Derek is the hard man in the back four now. It was great seeing him square up up to O'Dowd last week.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
You really just see what you want dont you? I said i wouldnt have him in my first team squad, I wouldnt be getting rid of altogether! Maybe if you read things you wouldnt be in so many arguments on this board. Anyway, from what ive heard about yesterday, they should all retire.Originally posted by Peadar

Deccie GAVE his all for city and he WAS an excellent defender and captain. I want to remember Deccie as the guy who stood in front of the Shed after the rovers game a few years back and said "same time.same place.next year" after a season of excellent performances. I don't want to remember him as a guy who kept going when he was past his best and kept young fellas on the bench. That's why he should retire NOW! He's still worth a coaching spot though.Originally posted by Peadar
Ok I will fight each one who will deny that Deccie has given his all for Cork City FC.........I can't wait to box the head of Eanna!
As for your comments about boxing people, I remember being called "stupid" for saying something about Liam Murphy and mentioning violence in the same sentence. Practise what you preach.
so will i, deccie has given his allOriginally posted by Peadar

I'll start with Eanna, James and Neil because that's the big money fight. ****** is the most appropriate word for you lads.
I can't wait to box the head of Eanna!
BUT he isn't up to it anmore
he's too slow to react
too slow for pace
deccie is past his sell by date, and should retire and not have more fans remembering for the disaster he surely will be next year when he gets outpaced everytime he plays..
i'd much rather remember the great leadership, determination and love for playing for ccfc that he showed throughout his playing career, rather then the memory of an old man attemping to hang onto a vision of his past..
its time to move on declan, give someone else a shot at it
And i'll i too will remember as eanna pointed out his years of service to cork city and that season when we beat rovers on the last day of the season, but lost the league to pats, the shed was packed, stayed on for 30/40 mins after the gaem singing, and deccie came out to talk to us.
"Same time, same place, next year" he promised, and although we never repeated it next year, thats the memory of him i want to keep...
life is random
Deccie has undoubtedly been one of the alltime greatest city players. Hes been just about ok on the pitch this season although most of his influence has been as a leader on the pitch. He has still put in the last ditch saving tackles but has also been caught out badly for pace too often.
Saying all that its the Manager who picks the team & its not Deccie (like Hartigol) that hes been picked to play. Unfortunateky we all know Gunther will pick Deccie as long as he still standing.
Deccie may be about to be about to make the same mistake that Johnny C made of not retiring while still contributing. Johnny C should have retired last season as this year he has diminished a great career.
Personally I think Deccie should retire near the top this year as I can't see him enhancing the memories next season.
