Anyone know what the gk situation is at Derry City?

I know they've lost last year's regular gk, Cherrie, but given a contract to 20 y.o. Jack Lemoignan from nearby Newbuildings Utd (Intermediate), who has been training with them for a while.

JL suggests he'll be challenging Nathan Gartside (22) for the first team, but are DCFC really going to rely on two such inexperienced players, or will they sign s.o. else?

We are going with the two young keepers is the consensus. Gartside is being given #1 jersey.

Would that be financial, or is Gartside rated?

Probably not financial as we have strengthened pretty significantly in other areas of the pitch and had Gartside and Lemoignan at the club alongsode Cherrie last season.

Gartside has done little or nothing wrong in the games he has played and has been with the club a while now so I assume he is highly enough thought of to be given his chance.

It must be stressed I am only taking a best guess at the thinking of management from what we have heard and seen in local media etc.

We really can’t do much worse than Cherrie did in the second half of last season.

Paddy Barrett (ex Dundalk & Waterford) has signed for Pats.

Was playing in Cambodia most recently, and in the States prior to that

Paddy Barrett confirmed aswell , Im happy with our days transfer business. I reckon another keeper in as backup and we are in good shape.

Very different starting 11 in the first match against Rovers for Pats then at the end of last season

Five who were regular starters are gone - Clarke, Feely, McNally, Gibson and Kelly.

The other six are still available - Desmond, Forrester, Benson, Griffin, Lennon, King. Probably 6 of the best 7/8 from that squad.

It seems to me we have strengthened signifcantly, which was needed.

Barrett deputised well when at Dundalk. Will offer a threat too at attacking corners/frees. Pats looking like they will be less brittle in general this season.

Took us a while longer to win pre-season as we tend to every year but glad we've gotten there in the end.

That’s Eamon you’re thinking of. Made his debut for Blackpool at 14 as I recall.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Pats fans have any opinion on what to expect from Cian Kavanagh?

Cian Kavanagh or Cian Coleman? Cian Coleman was at Pats before going back to Cork, Cian Kavanagh was at Wexford last year & didn't exactly stand out

There are two Cian Kavanaghs - one who played for Pats and then went to Hearts and the second who was with Wexford for part of last year and also played for UCD, Shels & Shamrock Rovers.

Correct, Eamonn came through Blackpool's academy before playing for other clubs. Coincidentally I saw this article on the family today, good read.

Doubt there'd be many who have seen much of him as he was only a kid at pats. He came through the youth setup and was called up to the first team on a pro contract in 2019 at age 16 and played in a friendly against Cobh which he looked decent in, tall lad for his age and looked a decent dribbler. That was his only game as he signed for Hearts a few weeks later. Looking at pictures of him playing in Scotland he looks to have filled out a lot more and looks physically ready for the men’s game despite being only 18 still. I see Waterford announced him as an attacking midfielder, he was a striker with Pats and Hearts so either he must’ve started playing as an attacking midfielder at Cowdenbeath or else they’re mixing his position up with the other Cian Kavanagh that was at Wexford last year

Ronan Murray to Drogheda, that seems like a great signing.

He didn’t really work out as a signing for Dundalk and was average at best with Sligo IMO. Was on trial with Pats and scored a penalty at the weekend, mustn’t have been offered a deal by O'Donnell. If he can get back to his form at Galway he'll be a brilliant signing for Drogheda, although easier said than done considering thats 4 years ago now

Provides good depth especially if we ever want to play 2 up top. Dinny, Murray and Lyons are our strikers, doubt they'll set the league alight but should all chip in with a few each, hopefully enough to keep us up.

It was expected, but finally confirmed earlier today, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe to Dundalk. That's striker no 4 now on the books.

Should be even better craic for the boys on DLK FM, 'Now its passed out from the back by Jurkovskis, but its been intercepted, now its headed clear by Nattestad who plays a nice ball back to Jurkovskis and he sends it wide and its picked up by Ogedi-Uzokwe who feeds the sub Midstkogen, and he holds it up for......................
