For a team that is trying to play a passing game we give the ball away an awful lot. Makes it needlessly difficult. Kenny needs to address that as much as the failures up front if his style is to be a success.

Can't fault the team for effort.

8 clean sheets in their last 9 games (plus a 3-0 defeat to England)

Given our striking problems, 0 was probably a good score for us.

Still, Jack Byrne really let us down with that pass there. I wouldn't have him near the squad until he has learned how to measure passes correctly. Very poor there.
3 comments now on the Byrne pass.

Not really, though it's not like Wales seemed to have their backs to the wall at the end either. We could use another gear. I'd settle for the first one finding some teeth, mind you.

Ok but number 17 was watching the moon.

Very bad game from the teenager

Collins did ok except for that time he should have passed to Doherty. We don’t seem to have anything better at the moment.

Yeah, sorry, not trying to clog the thread with negativity, I'm just very frustrated that a player with such poor passing judgement was allowed to play for us. I suppose we don't have a whole lot of other options. I honestly think that was one of, if not the, single biggest mistakes I've ever seen at international level.

I think the fighting spirit is still there, just a lack of quality. My only takeaway is that I’d like to see Collins play a full 90 in Kenny’s system. From his off the ball movement, to his physicality, Collins just seems more battle hardened. I’d play him vs Bulgaria on Wednesday and see what he’s got.

Not saying Idah has no role to play in WCQ but doesn’t seem fully where we need him to be.

We keep the ball for 30 or 40 seconds and whether it's Stephen Ward or Kenny Cunningham, you would swear that Stephen Kenny is trying to implement total football.

Teams like Luxemburg do that and can actually play penetrating football. Meanwhile, our best chance of a goal is the usual Duffy header. Horrendous to watch and I see nothing from Kenny that impresses me.

If Kenny really wants to change the culture then he should be clearing the decks of dross like McClean and several others.

As I've said before, I can take the likes of Idah or Molumby being ineffective. They are the future for us. The McCleans are the past and not a past that I look back on with any fondness.

Lets use the next two years as a chance for the young players to become seasoned internationals. We haven't a prayer of getting to Qatar but if they get to that point then I will be happy. Kenny will earn my respect for trying to be brave for the future (like countries like Belgium did).

Even I believe Byrne should have threw it to the box, Knight was watching the moon. Worst player on the pitch 17

Is it up there with Spartacus crossing the Rubicon ? ?

Or that French fella head butting the Italian in that big final ?

Knight did everything wrong when he came, Byrne should have thrown it inside the welsh box, but the kid was distracted

Awful again; I really don't know where we go from here.

We offer no goal threat at all. One goal in 10-and-a-half hours of football. And we look very iffy at the back in every match we play.

England excepted, these aren't even second rate teams we're playing, they're third-rate sides. Teams like Wales, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Finland, and we're failing to lay a glove on them.

We're just so easy to play against.

You haven't watched much international football so.

Remember Terry Phelan and Packie Bonner against Holland in 1994 for example?

Or Shay Given for much of Euro 2012?

It was a hospital pass; it was crap but it happens. There's no need for daft hyperbole over it though.

Watched it a few times now and in my opinion a 100% penalty.

Look, I get that a lot of people on this forum watch the LOI regularly and it is only natural to be defensive of the only player from that league that plays for the national team. The pass he attempted was totally indefensible in my opinion. I'd love to play for Ireland but I'm not good enough, and sadly, neither is this guy. That was Joey Lapira stuff.

I think you're just being funny, but for the record, Spartacus' rebellion was in the south of Italy, near Mount Vesuvius. Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon with his legions to spark a later civil war. We don't quite know where it was, but it was a northern border, so I don't think Spartacus ever got near it.

He had about 5 touches and 4 were fantastic. He made a mistake that was compounded by Knight (I think?) not moving quick enough. Stop with the hyperbole, Hourihane's pass directly to England leading up to the penalty was a more ridiculous error and it only happened on Thursday.

It was a crap pass, but you're going to have to put your hand up here and say that "It was the worst pass ever in international football" is just utterly stupid.

    Sorry, but...
