    Bottom of first division...

I was just reading the preview of City/Galway and Rico said Galway will be without the pressure of the bottow of the first division when they play the cup tie.

Got me thinkin, what's the story with the bottom of the first division. How come nobody ever gets relegated? Has this always been the case? Are there any clubs that want to join the league?

I heard something about having to be re-elected if ya finish bottom - when's the last time a team was voted out of the league?
The glass isn't half full or half empty it's just too damn big!

Galway are not bottom. Kilkenny are and Galway are just above them. Yeah you have to be re-elected if you finish last although I'm not sure when the last team to be voted out was.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

Thought they were booted out because of financial problems. Heard it's all in order now and they're wanting to get back in

They've no chance. Way too many Dub clubs as it is. When St. Francis folded, Kldare county came in but AFAIK the only other team to apply was from Kerry but they couldn't guarentee any sort of facilities.

Thought Mullingar were looking to get in though too?

Last season I think they were still recruiting. I know the missus cousin was approached (he'd just been let go by a premiership side).

As far as i know the bottom two face re-election although I don't think there's ever been a case of second last being given the boot and I don't know if there are any cases of not being re-elected since the two division league came into being.

Until a club makes a solid case for league status I can't see re-election being an issue. Will have to wait and see how the Mullingar situation develops in coming years.

Would be good if a team from Kerry, Cavan or one of the counties without semi-pro team would apply. Cavan town is big enough for sure to host an Eircom League team.

It might be worth having a look here to get an idea of the population centres !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

    no 1

I dont think anyone has actually been voted out of the league most (st francis and The gate) folded and tendered their resignations before a vote can be taken. Re-election is a joke and its the LAST TWO TEAMS in the division who have to apply for it. They make a load of promises and then get re-elected.. If i rem prob with the gate, Dom Foley was trasferred to Wolves for £80,000. Mick Byrne was his agent...the gate went bust cos they were in dept to the tune of £80,000 They never saw any of the Foley money.
