2 wins and a draw will get us up to 1.7222. Hopefully enough to get us into Pot C. Its amazing that we can win the group and we'll still be in Pot bloody C.

And remember that there are no playoffs, 1st and 2nd qualify.

That'd be a bit of a kick in the balls wouldn't it

Interesting stuff eirebhoy. If we get into pot c our qualifying group could potentially contain Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland? Assuming they remain in different pots
    Resign, now!

    Hi All,

I reckon those seedings are a fairer reflection of where we are in the current pecking order. The other rankings that include friendlies are a bit of a joke. How we are seeded doesn't seem to effect whether we qualify or not. Am I right in thinking we were seeded 1 for Portugal 04?

    Cheers,

yeah, we were seeded 1st. It doesnt seem to make any difference what so ever. if we have the players then we will get 1st or 2nd spot. I hope its not a British team like norn iron.

Well, they have a similar points average to us and its not as if we have had really tough teams in the last two qualification campaigns. We seem to do better when we are up against it rather than when favourites. By the way I do fancy us to get 7 points out of our last three games. I just hope its enough for automatic qualification.

    Cheers,

I think our ranking flatters us, our seeding points don't do us justice. I think any of the Pot A or B teams would prefer to have any of the Pot C listed teams below in their group than Ireland.

Outside Argentina, Brazil & maybe Mexico are there any other non-European sides that'd be in the "real" top 15 teams?

Lads Scotland got to the play offs in the last qualifying, we did not. I think we are better than them but there are many people in Ireland that tend to laugh at Scoland in a very arrogant way. i would hate us to become like England supporters and dismiss people in that way. It was not too long ago when they were streets ahead of us. If Walter Smith was in charge from the very start of their campaign I would think they would be in contention for a play off place.

People shoul remember that there are more seeding and less teams in each seed. Been in pot A does not equate with Seed 1 in the last few qualifying groups. The reason behind this is that there are only 7 groups which mean 7 top seeds. In the last few qualifying camapaigns there are 10 groups. Thefore if you were 18 or 19 you were a 2nd seed but now you woudl be in Pot C. For 2004 we had 2 good qualifying campaigns behind us with lots of points from 2000 and 2002 and that pushed us up to the top seeds. I reckon our placing in Europe is about 15.

I suppose we could expect to be in group b for the qualifiers for 2010?
Assuming we take 20 or 22 points from 10 games, hopefully.

Not alot makes sense we are 11 in Europe according to FIFA
    http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statisti...y-2005,00.html
yet 26th according to this lot.

Latvia, world ranked 65 (26 in eurpoe) are 17 here.

Also are you better in a big groups or do the points against cr*p teams
not count? Seems as they do though as all out 13 points are in there,
    which includes the Faroes.

How can we be in the same pot as Scotland FFS? The couldn't even beat
    the Faroes!!

To be honest I fancy us to qualify with us in pot c with two to qualify. i think it suits us better to go for first place and ultimately get second...
