Disappointing today. Again not making much runs and fluffed a major chance by passing. More than a few times the high press broke down because Evan didn't close off the angles.

I hate to say it but the right thing to do for his development now is to send him on loan.

I'd like to see him go on loan too, just for 6 months of football where a team is built around him, get his fitness and confidence back. There's plenty of teams around the bottom half of the PL that could use a striker, tough to see him break in to what Brighton are doing right now, but Welbeck's legs won't last forever and they'll likely lose Pedro in the not too distant future, so opportunities will open up again.

I don't like the loan "solution". What team will build around a striker who isn't striking? A bottom-half PL side faces the same defences and structures as Brighton. It won't be easier, in fact it will add pressures. Fans will expect more and be less sympathetic than those at Brighton who have empathy with a youngster who emerged so spctacularly.

Dropping to the Championship would be worse. Was Bazunu any better there after his fragile PL season? No. Failure to impress could also brand Ferguson a flash-in-the-pan whose 15 minutes of fame has elapsed. Indeed, if we're totally honest and minus green-tints, it's an assessment not without momentum.

Ferguson should work to re-establish himself at Brighton. I don't believe manager Hurzler doesn't rate him or the nonsense that Wellbeck is his nemesis. If Ferguson is totally clear of injury, everything he needs is there. If he's good enough it'll happen,

It is just a matter of time. He will be an elite PL striker. Going through a challenging period, thats all.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Brighton already being out of the League Cup, and not being in Europe does limit his opportunities to get in there and start games consistently to put in performances that will get him back to where he can be, a little niggle for Welbeck that puts him out for a fortnight wouldn't hurt, I'm saying what I have a little prematurely as the Christmas schedule is intense and now will be when they rotate, if he's still only starting the odd match by January I think he would be better off elsewhere, from Brighton's perspective he offers obvious excellent depth so I don't necessarily see it happening in any circumstance unless his form falls off a cliff.

The litmus test for me regarding Ferguson is what do I feel in my gut once he receives the ball? Honestly I feel fear...fear that he will likely lose the ball and Brighton's move will break down. Compare him to someone like Cole Palmer (his own age and similar stature) I don't feel the same way when Palmer receives the ball. Comparing Ferguson to Wellbeck, Minteh and Joao Pedro, he is last in that line up of player's as far as doing damage for Brighton. Joao Pedro is number one. Evan needs goals right now if his career is going to progress

Completely agree about the fear part and you can see that he's really afraid of making mistakes. At times it looks like the players around him aren't giving him the short passes either. It's a bit of a clusterbuck of little things that are killing his confidence.

I agree that a loan to a low level PL side might not be the best thing but surely one of the top table championship teams wouldn't be a bad move? Or maybe a European team?

You can even see the difference in play when he's been on for Ireland - more relaxed and taking more risks.

    He's back baby!

    Maybe... Hopefully...

Consolation goal today in a 3-1 defeat at home against Palace. Had gotten the last 20 or so as a sub.

Edit - or maybe not. Futbol24 gives him the goal, but most places giving it as a Guehi own goal instead.

    As you were...

Was an OG surely? Very similar to Doherty's one yesterday with a defender whacking a clearance straight off the back of another one and in. Ferguson was in there making a nuisance of himself alright though.

Both were terrible today. The team in general was woeful with the exception of Enciso who made quite an impact when he came on. Ferguson was quite lively in his late substitute appearance but this Brighton team has problems at both ends of the pitch

Opposing managers seem to have figured them out - two draws with Southampton (at home) and Leicester (away) and defeats to Fulham and Palace (3 of them bottom five teams) - smacks of a team going off the rails. Their form is bottom three at the moment.

His confidence in front of goal looks absolutely shot at the moment. Made an awful hash of a decent chance when he came on today. Did at least do well to hold a ball up and set up a chance for a teammate, which was saved.

Looks like he's out of the squad tonight. They have Rutter, Minteh and Adingra on the bench. March is another player that can play in an attacking role and he's back from a long term injury and in the squad too.

Can they not play him in a few PL2 games or something to help him get his confidence in front of goal back? I can understand why Brighton don't have him in the team at the moment, he's just not playing well enough.

I read on twitter that he's out injured. He seems to be linked with a loan move to almost every other Premier League team in January.

Yea - he has an ankle injury.

Rumours floating around that Welbeck (who has been acting as a mentor to Ferguson) had a big bust up with Hurzeler over how he was treating Ferguson. This is interesting given that Welbeck is also out injured, Brighton's current form is bottom three and haven't won in seven games. It looks like Welbeck's intervention might have had some impact - today Hurzeler said that if Ferguson was fit he would be starting - but he is also out for the Arsenal game. Welback has no timeline for a return with a foot injury, Ferguson should be fit for the cup game. It will also be interesting to see if Liverpool go after Pedro in January.
