I remember being impressed at the grace of Adrian Mutu striking the ball and then volleying the richochet with his other foot, but I can't remember seeing someone fouling a player with one foot and then the other on consecutive steps like that in a while. It's a veritable ballet of cynical fouling.
Really shocking tackle and fully deserved a red. Shows how far off the pace Fabinho is. I can’t see him staying at Liverpool for much longer. Didn’t realise Ferguson turned Liverpool down.
Not looking too great for Ferguson although the extent remains to be seen. Absolute shame. Hoping the crutches is them just being cautious.
The extent of the injury could now determine whether that is a possibility, with the Brazil international only shown a yellow card for the brutal challenge which resulted in Ferguson leaving the stadium on crutches.
“We are sorry for him (Ferguson),” the Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi told beIN Sports. “The injury, we don’t know yet, but we will see in the next days and we hope for him and for the club that it will not be so important an injury.”
Var checked it and agreed with the refs decision of a yellow card.
Yeah he felt there was a better pathway to come through at Brighton. While he likely would have gotten some chances at Liverpool given the talent he has its worked out really well for him. Back up to Danny Welbeck at 18 and impressing. Don't think it's green tinted glasses to say in a few years he'll get that move and made the right choice to avoid the big clubs at 16.
Did okay in the game, some good link play, noticeably dropped deep several times in second half. Probably should have placed his shot out of Trent’s reach in first half, could have scored in second half too but shot was blocked. More promising signs.
Fabinho’s tackle was bad. Don’t think there was enough impact for a break. He was non weight bearing after the game but expect that is precautionary. A couple of days of round the clock ice then time for imaging to get the outlook. I’m optimistic that it’s only some soft tissue damage and he will be back in a couple of weeks. Possibly ligaments though requiring a few additional weeks, but will be back even stronger after rehab
The impact wasn't the cause of concern for the injury. If you look at the physios treating him on ground it was was for the stability of the knee, they didn't even look at ankle area. He twisted it pretty badly. I believe he also left stadium in a knee brace so I'd be pretty concerned about it. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as it looks
So an ACL is a potential outcome here then? That would be an absolute disaster for him at 18.
Keane O'Shea Given Best Smallbone
If it was his ACL, he wouldn't have been able to walk off the pitch
Hopefully that's not what it is, but I have seen people walk off with them before. Actually saw a guy play on for a few minutes with one in a GAA match at Croke Park once before giving up and walking off. Turned out afterwards it was an ACL. Anyway, hopefully not in this case.
Keane O'Shea Given Best Smallbone
I hope Evan bides his time and gets an opportunity to exact his revenge on Fabinho at some stage.
When will we know the damage
He might be back.in time
Or am I a blind dreamer
Probably mightn't find out till Wednesday the latest but if we take it as Wednesday it's seven weeks till the Latvia game. He looked bad coming off and just hoping it's 7 or 8 weeks rather than 7 or 8 months at this stage.
I would take any outcome other than his knee being in pieces at this stage, we're on about the next ten years here hopefully rather than the coming ten weeks.
