IMO the league has few enough stars that are known throughout the country whose loss would be noticed. These will obviously be with the current top clubs.
Doyle (gone)
O'Callaghan
O'Flynn
Hoolahan
Crowe
Jason Byrne
Kevin Hunt
Totally agree with Pete and said this to Cork fans when it was first revealed that Doyler might be leaving,to which the reply was as is above.Originally Posted by pete

Are those players good enough to be household names in Ireland ??Originally Posted by pete
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Them and more he should have mentioned.Originally Posted by A face
The good thing about the current situation is that many lads who come back from England after leaving clubs could be still playing over there in the lower leagues etc but come over here, it shows that the players have respect for the league over here and don't think think that its a pishhole and that it aint worth it. Also, it's good to see that lads like Wes H from Shels are'nt flappin their gums every week about wantin to play in England, nearly beggin to be bought. IMO It shows that they are happy to commit to their club and then if an opportunity comes along to move on they consider it.
I think EL clubs just need to wise up e.g. I know that Kevin Doyle had a clause in his contract which meant he left on the cheap but in future (if the player/s have no such clauses) the agreement should include:
-A percentage of any money paid to e.g.Reading by another club that buy's him from e.g.Reading to be paid to e.g. Cork
-200,000e should the player make an international appearance
-100,000e should the player play 100 lge games etc etc , carp like that.
Sod all to do with respect and everything to do with money. We're paying more than the lower leagues in England now.Originally Posted by Stevo Da Gull

The re might not be a huge difference in the football between the EL and the division 1 in England but the difference in the facilities and infrastructure is huge and until that changes there willalways be the "we cant stand in their way" mentality.Originally Posted by D2 Red
The only consistent thing in recent years is that:
- Few irish players are released from EPL or Championship & drop down to Leaguer One or Two.
- eL player are not moving to League One or Two sides.
I don't think eL sides need to focus on cash too much now as would be competitive but need better training & general club facilities to show players a professional setup. Stadium facilities are only part of it.
