You are right about being reprogrammed for worry but in this case I think it's a realistic worry. Waterford in their last 3 games have beaten bohs 2 nil and hit the post 3 times , pats 3 nil who we drew with and should have beaten dundalk in oriel bar a crazy last 10 mins. This is a real potential banana skin followed by a tough task in oriel. If we come through these matches unbeaten we will have got over a major hump and can start to really believe.
I have seen 8 winning titles in my time going to rovers but the changes in Europe formats and money makes this title run in feel more important than any before

Ourselves and Harps beat Waterford since the Dundalk game. They might have won their last 2 but they didn’t win any of their last 5 before that. I do enjoy you trying to big up every team before ye beat them mind.

    Nope genuine paranoia.
Two wins though and my permanent sense of dread would diminish considerably.

Logical debating was never your strong point, was it?
    Your "argument" was complete nonsense.

We were 13 points behind (albeit with 2 games in hand) last season and were 15 ahead by the time we won it.

Reading through your recent posts, it's again quite clear you were never actually a UCD student, just one of their 3 fans.

Why not simply try to enjoy the upcoming Rovers matches instead?

    Why?

Try and make some valid points to back your stance. You had this problem the last time too - you just got abusive when it became clear you had nothing to back your point up with. I'm not sure why you're so incapable of reasoned discussion.

That's nice. The point of a team on the slide is that I don't think that would have happened this year. And another argument to back up the idea of a team on the slide is Dundalk's recruitment policy - it's basically the 2016 team growing old together, with a couple of foreigners senile Bill has heard about but who ultimately flatter to deceive. 8 of the team that started the first EL group match against Alkmaar are still at the club, and the three who've left - Finn, Horgan and O'Donnell - were arguably the best three, and haven't really been replaced properly.

Other than that, the transfer policy seems to be to sign back former players (McMillan, Hoban, Boyle, McEleney). There's no youth set-up worth talking about. Dundalk are standing still and just letting Rovers pass them out.

It's possible that in a normal season, Dundalk would have won the league. I think, given how the real season has gone, it's less than 50/50. But you're the one arguing that Rovers factually "wouldn't have won it over 36 games". All I'm saying is that can't be a certainty.

I'm not sure what you think this adds to your argument to be honest. Though you seem seem to specialise in being quite certain about things which are wrong, so maybe it's not too surprising.

It's quite apt that the thread title has September 11th, as it seems people won't shut up talking about it!

Yeah it does my head in. Wars fought, billions spent to prevent another 9/11 and yet every year I buy a calendar and there it is again.

If Rovers win the league we will have to watch out in Talaght stadium for low flying planes approaching from the North

Your worry could well be founded but not on the pitch. Weekly incident levels in Dublin are heading toward lockdown levels. While I doubt a full lockdown would be implemented it could mean suspending all sport again in the area. That could also lead to the league winners being declared of course. By next week if +500 cases are reached then there will definitely be a level-up to status 3. Would make it impractical to play even 18 games and the cup before November. Either way this season could have a long road ahead yet. If the 2 fixtures between the top 3-4 clubs are gotten in then at a push it is possible to declare the champions without too much kick back. If things are suspened before eg the DFC v SRFC it hard to see a clear court free end to things. In the balance off the pitch if clear cut on it!

Ah sure that'd just be Dubin Airport. Watching out for somone carrying cans of watered down petrol might be the way to go!

Elite sport is ok at level 3 , i wlll go back to worrying about the on the pitch stuff
    Level 3

The priority at Level 3 is to keep schools and childcare facilities open and minimise disruption in the work force.
This means that a number of services will be moved online, some businesses will be closed (for example: pubs, museums and other indoor cultural venues).
Social gatherings will be limited to one other household in your own home and no social meetings will be allowed to take place elsewhere.
Up to 25 people can attend wedding and funeral services and no indoor gatherings such as trips to the cinema, training or conferences will be allowed to take place.
Gatherings of up to 15 people will be allowed to take place outside and no matches will be allowed to take place apart from professional/elite/inter-county/club championship/horse-racing which can take place behind closed doors.

Have you actually no valid argument to back up your point?

I'm thinking maybe a discussion board isn't for you. You just seem to throw a hissy fit whenever someone disagrees with you.

Level 3 minimum meant really with current trends. Its of no benefit for clubs if the league is suspened again and not somthing to try an exploit either. But things are at a really sh1t level and I cant see how spread can be mitigated against without much stricter phases. Using the example of the midlands, and considering numbers in the more densely populated capital, options are closing. Intervention could be forced upon government rather than the current soft touch like delaying some pubs reopening for a week. 357 new cases yesterday, 218 in Dublin, 2nd highest is Louth with 18 new cases. 7 days and just Dublin figures could easily be +500, grounds for national restrictions never mind local/regional. At this stage should be in the covid thread but we're heading nowhere nice fast!
