No it's not. Just because it's international football doesn't make it a step up, the Faroes would have a weaker defence than the average first division side and even some U21 sides he's played against.Originally Posted by Littlest Hobo

I certainly hope we will.
They had some very decent performances home and away both against Scotland and Germany in the last campaign.
Their repeated decent performances belie their Thor the fisherman tag and their small population.
They are fiercly proud and tough people, the team is a sum of the parts, and a good manager.
Surely it could not have escaped your attention how Ireland have struggled to beat such teams over the years.
Aside from that it is a great place to visit but expensive, the traveling support should have a great time especially those who enjoy fantastic nature, fjords etc.

It hasnt escaped my attention. but the faroes are worse than latvia, lithuania and other eastern european sides we've beaten. and it wont be as intimidating either.. did ya see the stadium against switzerland.. at least half empty tbh
Elliot has to come in as a straight swap for Keane.....He can't make anymore glaring mistakes so soon after saturday. Love to drop O'Shea but its seems Mr Kerr is without balls so I can't see that happening...
Yes, thank you. The Faroes for those who keep an eye on international football in other groups have had a history of being niggly, strong, well organised and difficult to play against over the years. Plus their pitch is a bog patch. They've broken the hearts of the Scots and Slovenians by dragging them to draws. In our current campaign we are not putting teams away. I said they have the potential. They came close to holding Switzerland the other day. I think we will beat them. We definately will not beat them by more than 3, and more likely 1 or 2 nil but there is a chance they could hold us and not a ridiculous one at that.Originally Posted by geysir

Kerr will not play Elliot as he hasn't impressed much in brief appearances for Ireland so far.

Its a shame that we have to depend on someone like O'Shea to slot into one of the most important positions in the team irrespective of what club he plays for.The man is total pants and at this stage i would put him into the Phil Babb category of ****e defenders to play for us.Thank God it's only the Farros and not the Swiss or the French we are playing.
----------Given
Carr - Cunningham - O'Shea
A Reid - S Reid - Roy - Duff
-----------Kav------------
-----Clinton - Elliott-------
Like most people i would like to see O'Shea dropped but with the injuries i think we have to play him. The only faith i have in him will be that he will play along side Cunningham who is a great leader at the back.
There shouldnt be a "risk" with Elliot. He scored 17 goals and has done well when played out of position for Ireland. Lets hope Ireland dont get an early goal and for Kerr to shut up shop.
My team:
----Given---
--Carr--Cunningham--o'shea--Harte
--Reid(A)--Keane--Kilbane--Duff
0----Morrison---Elliot
I'd go:-
-------------Given
Carr - Roy Keane - Cunningham - Harte
---A Reid - S Reid - Kav - Duff
-------Clinton----------
--------------Doc
Center back is a problem, but I'd use Roy's experience and play him there and hope the Faroese strikers arent too pacey. If, on watching a tape of the Swiss-Faroese game, BK sees them as being pacey, he should drop S Reid to the bench, move Roy back to midfield and play the lad Paddy McCarthy in defense. On the other hand I'd expect the Reids and Duffer (as long as BK doesnt waste him upfront) to cause the Faroese problems, I can see us winning free kicks and Hartey scoring from them. I'd play Doc upfront to try and take advantage of Andy R's and Duffer's crosses. The Doc has a good scoring record for us against small teams and I think Wednesday night will see him prevail again. This team would give us attacking options, and hopefully allow us to beat the Faroese and rack up our first away win in some time.
I have a feeling McCarthy might play to be honest....
Sadly, I think Kerr will stick with Duff upfront and the woeful Kilbane as a left-winger (Kilbane should either play in the centre of not at all).
It'll be a mistake but that is what I think he will do. Team for Wednesday:
Given
Carr O'Shea Cunningham Harte
Holland Keane Kavanagh Kilbane
Duff Morrisson
It'll be that negative.
There is no such thing as a miracle cure, a free lunch or a humble opinion.
Playing the Doc is an embarassment to Football in ireland...The guy can't even play keepy uppy...Its just wrong...I cringe evry time I see him in an Ireland Jersey...stop the hurt....Not saying that he can't get goals and disrupt things its just that its really not they way it should be....

I don't know about yer reaction to the return of Harte to the squad, It has astounded me. He scores a brilliant goal in no time and gets MOM award (questionable) and now is included in almost everybody's first 11 for Wed without question. Its like the prodigal son has returned after what seems a lifetime in exile and in exchange we have a memory wipe out and carry on as normal.
I certainly hope he has rediscovered his form of old and nails down his place.
Or will he be ditched as soon as both Carr and Finnan are available?
I know he is shi*e but it appears its him or O'Shea. They would'nt make a decent defender between them but i know its sad to have to admit the Doc just shades it for me.Personally i would throw Macarthy in there.onenilgameover Playing the Doc is an embarassment to Football in ireland...The guy can't even play keepy uppy...Its just wrong...I cringe evry time I see him in an Ireland Jersey...stop the hurt.... Advice to Kerr:
1.) Don't select Holland
2.) Don't play Duff up front
Best team available, imo:
Given
Carr Cunningham O'Shea Harte
A. Reid Keane Kilbane Duff
Morrison Doherty
Carr Cunningham Doherty Harte
Reid Keane Kilbane Duff
Elliot Morrison
Doherty would be useful up front in a game we expect(?) to win
That looks decent but I'd swop the Doc for O' Shea.Originally Posted by tricky_colour

I'd consider playing Holland RHM and Reid upfront with Morrisson.
O'Shea doesn't deserve to be an automatic starter. I hope he gets his career back on track as he's going backwards at this stage.
Im going to go for 4-3-3
-------------Given
Carr----Cunningham--O'Shea--Harte
Holland-------Keane---------Kilbane
Reid---------Morrison----------Duff
Either start Morrison or Elliott. If the worst came to the worst put doc up front.
4-4-2 isnt going to bring us much joy in such a narrow pitch so Im opting for the 4-3-3.
It's going to be very hard to get the 3 points, the faries will battle hard the full 90 minutes and no doubt bring us down to their squirmy level.
