I've compared the standard of the national league in England before to the LOI as the national league has part time players. I don't think comparing the LOI to the EFL is a fair playing field. Its afaik totally full time, they get solidarity payments through the English football pyramid system. I was looking at figures this morning that L1 clubs receive £700 k , L2 £470 that's a nice chunk on day one of a new season. Then after that you have population sizes to consider for example our old friend Roddy's stomping ground Carlisle United. The town of Carlisle has a population of 108K while Sligo has 20K and they are languishing at the bottom of L2 and have an average attendance of 4000 per game. Then on top of that you have cultural attitudes o football , other Sports to compete with in a small market. The two just aren't comparable in my book.

Essentially furthering my argument there. The LOI is a pub league if compared to even the lowest division of the EFL both in terms of infrastructure and standard. Sheridan is right.

    Crass, absolutely, but correct.

While its a derogatory term, non of the EFL or the NL are 'pub leagues' by standard, pay of facilties. Clubs differ of course and JS has had his fix on the lesser organised clubs. As a manager he has yet to pit himself against a club in Europe.

Swindon Fans want him to go, and Lee Power might lose ownership of them in court this week, that a positive or negative for the Blues who knows

This caught my eye 'John Sheridan criticised his players for not listening to his instructions'/

    https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/...ague-standard/

Hearing the way that he gave 'instructions' from the sidelines to his Waterford players its no surprise if they dont listen to him. A manager would be banned from the touchline in a pub league for some of the stuff he does and says, and its not just for the likes of getting under Vinny Perth's skin. What is the ownership issue? I vaguely recall hearing about an offer to buy Swindon from Power but not the details.

So it wasnt hard to look up - what a mess! I thought power had full ownership of Swindon but it seems there are 3 shareholders who took an injunction against the sale of the club, Power is basically thretening the club with administration unless the sale is allowed and he will sue for losses he makes as a shareholder. Another chap is claiming 50% ownership of the holding company, another guy 15% so Power is a minority shareholder but trying to force a full sale. Im presuming he can only sell his own shares so dodgy if he is going to court. Unless Im reading it wrong its really dodge and manipulation to get himself out of the club with profit and doing so means trying to force a joint majority ownership to sell?

He might save some of his wealth by getting ot of Swindon which could benefit Waterford if he puts more focus there but really he just sounds like bad news, someone who spits the dummy and is fickle.

Ok I will outline my take on things just read, maybe people know the ins and outs already, but it is soap opera stuff and puts LoI to shame for dodginess in past sales of land, double contracts etc. Fascinating to me, shows a far more maniplative streak to Power than his and Delaney's attempt to get round UEFA rules and it is ertainly a worry for Waterford as it could put a lot of pressure on Power's finances if it hasnt already, depending on court decisions and what he could end up being liable for.

So basically Power convinced Gareth Barry via and with his advisor a Mr Standing to stump up half the cost of the club purchase (800k), incentivised with cuts from player sales and half of any increase of value in the club going forwrd. But this arrangement not being allowed for agents and footballers and so verbal agreement was made that Power would hold that 50% in trust - giving him full control though blagging that he was the outright owner. When a player was sold (10-12mil, but the financial windfall for the 'investors' didnt happen with Power citing that the profit from the sale went to pay off a club loan (and addtional 75k was payed out to to top up the money for clearing the loan. But the loan was found not to have been cleared. While this was going on Power was flogging 15% of the club for 1.1mil and to construction type business person. To avoid capital gains tax Power attempted to have the finances changed and money loaned to the club for withdrawal as a dividend rather than direct sale though that arrangement was disputed in the end, not the attempt though. Power delayed declaring the 15% ownership change to the league and 'the business name was incorrectly spelled and the form listed the “consideration” as £1, not £1.1m. To date no share certificate proving Axis’ part-ownership has been received' Power claimed there was no money payed for shares to the other investors.

Standing has provided 6mil in loans to the club (holding company) but wont assist with covering day to day expenses which is hurting Swindon and by extension Power. Its seems the 7.7mil sale is key for Power if big chunks of that need to be used to pay off other financial issues. If he doesnt get the sale through and administration happens then his own investment and the built up asset of the club become worthless and leaves a hole - before law suits could happen. As Power reneged on the 50% that he was supposed to have in trust, the way that those investors are leaning on Power is to push that he is actually an 85% owner and therefore liable for that amount of financial responsibility. Gareth Barry is claiming he just provided a friend a loan to buy half the club as then he wouldnt have been breaking ownership rules and the messing outed his involvement. There is plenty to run on this and Waterford fans should be glued to news from the court cases. What I think will happen is that all sides will drop the messing, tidy up the arrangements, to minimise losses as they are all losing out for as long as injunctions are in place or administration happens. It kinda puts Waterford's renaming and burning creditors in both some context and the halpenny place!

What was JS last club before Oldham DCSIL? Surely it wasnt Waterford?
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

They doing that bad lately ? The National league is awful it took Hartlepool a miracle to escape it. It’s a very dog eat dog level of the game in England with no money & limited opportunities to get out of.

A short period at Swindon where they dropped into the Fourth Tier.
