In fairness, Howe didn’t do bad getting Dom Solanke for £19m from Liverpool
Yea they are suppose to want 12m for Nat Phillips as well, he's a bang average mid championship centre half, probably worh 2 million at most, think Eddie Howe paying crazy money for their reserves while at Bournemouth has warped their view of the value of fringe players worth.
In fairness, Howe didn’t do bad getting Dom Solanke for £19m from Liverpool
took about 18 months to get there but it was always going to be a work in progress for a 22 year old lad who had started 5 premier league games (he was behind Firmino in that Liverpool team). Still buying for £19m and selling for £55m (rising to £65m) is pretty much as good or better than you could possibly hope for.
Ibe's story was really about depression, mental health, suicidal ideation and alcoholism - nothing really to do with ability. The £15m price tag was about right for the player he was then.
And Brad Smith was a £3m punt on a half decent kid, didn't work out but wasn't a huge loss to anyone involved...
A goalkeeper is not comparable to an outfield player - they have far fewer chance to get into the team and zero chances to be a sub. Kelleher is a very good keeper - but most PL teams have their keepers in place and those that don't can't afford the fee. Same with the European clubs.
Juventus signed Michele Di Gregorio from Monza on loan in May for a fee of €4.5m (with an obligation to buy for €13.5m) - but they must not be happy with what they are seeing. Di Gregorio is a decent but not very good goalkeeper and I suspect that Juve are looking for something more. Now the rumours about them signing Kelleher might be designed to light a fire under Di Gregorio's a*se - but if that is the case it does not bode well if he is not motivated after the move.
Justin Bijlow has failed a medical at Southampton
Its really not that complicated!!!
Southampton now trying to sign Aaron Ramsdale. I think hes a good keeper and dont think its great for Bazunu, especially if its not a loan
Its really not that complicated!!!
Not good news for Bazunu as Southampton signing Ramsdale for £25M.
Well there is obviously now no future for him there ,terrible news for Bazunu ….
Irish by birth ,Harps by the grace of god.
Lets see how Ramsdale does first.
Slightly surprised at the shock and consternation.
With promotion to the Premier League and Bazunu out for the majority of the season, did anyone seriously expect Southampton not to sign a quality goalkeeper this summer and simply soldier on with 35-year-old Alex McCarthy in goal?
Even if Bazunu hadn't got injured I'd imagine they would have seen that position as somewhere they would want to strengthen.
It's a big challenge for Bazunu, sure, and we'd sooner see him nailed on to start (especially with Kelleher still doing far too much bench warming), but let's see what he can do. Ramsdale might move on if they get relegated, Bazunu might move on, or he could even maybe challenge for the starting slot though it's a big ask. The main thing is he fully recovers from his injury first.
You can't spell failure without FAI
Slighly different take: I think Ramsdale was replaced by Raya at Arsenal because he made some costly errors in the title run in the season before last and also because Raya is trusted more by Arteta as a ball-playing goalkeeper. So if his ball playing skills are (relatively) suspect that might show that Martin is no longer placing such an emphasis on his goalkeeper's ball playing ability, which also doesn't augur well for Bazunu. Bazunu's distribution and ability to play out from the back were valued by Martin.
Ramsdale really made a big impact at Arsenal despite replacing Martinez who himself had made a big impact. In the first half of his season as number 1 he really was an outstanding goalkeeper but his form faded. Throughout though, he was a big personality and had a real confident, exuberant swagger about him which had a big impact on the team. I think this is one huge advantage he has over Bazunu. Whether his goalkeeping turns out to be of the right standard only time will tell. I think he's a good signing for Southampton.
I may be one of the few who think this is a great move for Bazunu. He gets better competition for the number one jersey, he gets a better training partner, and all round gets a better kick up the backside to push himself to get better.

Nigel's missus starts dating Colin Farrell on the side. "Well I think that's a good thing..."![]()
It's definitely a bad thing I think. Ramsdale is hardly going there as a number 2 and will have a few months to make his case.
But it's but exactly unexpected either - though Ramsdale is probably higher-profile than we'd have expected they'd get.
Still, worst case, he has to find a new club next summer. Wouldn't be the first keeper in the world who's had to find a new club. I'm sure he can get some tips from his Ireland squad mates...
