    Portsmouth in for Doyle

Just heard it on Radio 1. Paraphrase: Doyle looked like he was signing for Reading yesterday but a "host" of clubs have come in for him including Portsmouth and Stoke, etc. Something about offering "big" money was also mentioned...

so maybe a bidding war will result in city getting a few more bob...

    U 21s losing 0-2 btw

From what I understand by this famous release clause, City can not get any more than 117,000 for him. Anyone willing to pay 117,000 can offer him a contract. The big money probably reffers to what's being offered to him. Teams might realise they are getting a bargain and offer him another 117,000 signing-on fee.
The glass isn't half full or half empty it's just too damn big!

In this scenario CCFC would have to accept any bid of €117k & above. At that stage Doyle could decide who he wanted to play for.

Would be great if Portsmouth bought him under the noses of of the Dolan brothers.

With so many clubs apparently interested in him just shows what a bargain he is & all the more depressing.

What is about Cork clubs selling star players for pennies.

I really wouldn't-he'll just be stuck in their reserves for a few years and forgotten about. He can make a name for himself in the lower leagues, and i think we'd all prefer him to be a success.

I also want him to succeed but i think he can do that at portsmouth. If he can improve while there he'll get a first team chance and could make a name for himself quicker there.Plus i dont want the Dolan brothers to get him after these rumours.

You'd think they were the f*cking Krays the way people are going on.
Rumours is all they are. FFS, this should be about Kev, and what's best for him. He would be lost in the system at Portsmouth, as has happened to many other "promising youngsters". Same will happen to Daryl Murphy IMO.

From my experiences with Charlton Athletic, Premiership clubs rarely post rumours on their sites officially. To them, signing Doyler is nothing more than acquiring a future prospect, not a 1st team squad member.

We are told by the club chairman that the clause which permits Doyle to leave for peanuts was inserted by Dolan.
It was inserted about 2 years ago, prior to Doylers "ascent" , if you will. Or are you saying that Pat had planned his departure from CCFC that long ago. His brother has been manager there for a good while now-Pat probably mentioned Long to him ages ago. Promising players are hard to keep under wraps, and let's face it, people have been talking about Long on these sites for a while also. Word spreads.

As Colm has said on the Official Site Forum, i think we all feared the worst when Pat was thrown out. We all knew of his great relationship with many players, at the time we feared for Georgie, and many of us predicted that Kev would go soon. Common sense could see that coming. Furthermore, Pat has been with Doyler his whole career, so i suspect that Kev takes his advice very seriously and sees him as a great friend.

    I'll drink to that.

Hopefully this rift within the supporters can be healed from this point on. I feel that the club should also see this a s a chance to stop gloating over the Dolan supporters who also support CCFC, and start to improve communciation between the club and the fans. Some sort of weekly press release, etc. would be a start.

Was talking to Doylers cousin. Apparently he will sign for Reading on Tuesday but will play for us on Monday night. Hopefully Kev will say goodbye with a couple of goals!

NOBODY is gloating over the events of the last few days.
This whole thing has been a sordid event, and any fan of City will be downright depressed at how things have panned out....

    My tuppence worth

Many versions of the truth are out there.
Many opinions abound, some showing sharp divisions between fans.
Rumours as always are flying, and no better time than when a quality player is on the move.
How about this for an idea:
Club chairman / manager / whoever asks Kev to sign a new contract which supercedes the present snotrag, and let the bids come in then.
Is this too simple a scheme?

Well if it was up to Kevin Doyle, I think he might even go for it.
But we all know that he is being "advised".....

Exactly .... someone was always working the strings so no way around it.
