    WYW v Bohemians

Fantastic to see a club like Bohs put out a senior women’s team and a decent performance by them for their first time out as Wexford eased to a 4-1 victory in Ferrycarrig tonight. Wexford started with Kiev, Lynn, Nicola, Lolly, Ciara, Aisling, Edel, Kylie, Ellen and with Vanessa and Lauren Kelly up front. As expected, Wexford pressed from the start and got their first goal on eleven minutes when Lauren Kelly turned in a good low cross by Vanessa Ogbonna. The floodgates looked like opening at this stage but, to their credit, Bohs didn’t wilt and some average play by Wexford characterised by a litany of offsides meant that Wexford didn’t score again until 33 minutes when Ellen Molloy, on her league debut, lifted the ball over her opposing marker and finished coolly with her right foot for 2-0. In between these two Wexford goals, Kylie Murphy had gone close for Wexford with two good efforts. 2-0 to Wexford at half-time and with Kiev Gray not having to make a save in the Wexford goal.

Wexford applied more pressure in the second half and got their third on the twenty minute mark when Vanessa Ogbonna turned in an Ellen Molloy cross when close in. Ellen Molloy then finished nicely when arriving late at the near post for 4-0 as Wexford sub Kira Bates Crosbie drilled the ball in from the right wing. Bohs then got the goal their overall performance deserved when Chloe Darby’s effort from a good way out escaped the clutches of Kiev Gray in the Wexford goal. As the second half progressed, other Wexford subs were Fiona Ryan, Blessing Kingsley, Breda Cushen and Aoibheann Clancy. Ellen Molloy then tried hard to get her hat-trick on her debut and, just turned sixteen, is showing the potential already to be one of the best players the WNL has ever produced.

Best for Wexford, in addition to Ellen Molloy, were Aisling Frawley and Edel Kennedy while Abbie Brophy excelled for a hard-working Bohs side and Bohs sub, Bronagh Kane, also impressed when she came on. 4-1 to Wexford at full-time.
