Sunderland, now of the English Premiership and managed by former Irish captain and manager Mick McCarthy, have today confirmed the signing of Daryl Murphy from Waterford United.
The 22 year old had a spell in England before his move home in 2002. He scored 9 goals in 2003 but hit 21 last season as he rose to prominence, becoming a regular in Don Givens' Irish under-21 team.
The move has been confirmed as costing the English club GB£100,000 (just under €150,000).
