According to last nights Echo he isn't very happy because although City set the price tag in his contract, they are trying to negotiate more money out of Reading. Rightly so in my opinion.
Doyle was saying, I didn't ask for this clause, City put it in and now they are dragging their heels.
He also said I have enjoyed my time in Cork it was great but I must think of the bigger picture and my career which is true but says to me the lad is gone.

Roy O'Donovan gets his game in that case so .... no point in playing Doyle if his heart aint in it ... and sure who could blame him with him off to Reading.

Just aswell Roy is totally finding form now .... Roy starts from now on !!

    Pitiful...

    City to discuss Doyle transfer
    01/06/2005 - 10:56:43

The Cork City board will meet today to discuss a number of enquiries made by English clubs about the availability of Republic of Ireland Under 21 striker Kevin Doyle.

Charlton Athletic and Reading have both enquired about the striker’s availability and, although contracted to Cork until the end of 2006, it is unlikely the Leesiders will stand in Doyle’s way if he is interested in moving.

Doyle has scored six goals in ten starts for Cork this season as the Leesiders have rocketed to the top of the Premier Division table and it is unlikely that he will be sold for anything less than the €100,000 Sunderland paid for Waterford United striker Daryl Murphy.

As someone said on the official forum, whoever put that clause in may want to evaluate their position at this meeting.

I don't know if the clause will confuse issues but no chance CCFC would sell for measly 100k otherwise. Hes a proven u-21 (more goals than Murphy), eL & European scorer.

I'd love to know too, but it's unlikely that anyone outside of the parties involved will ever know what is in a private contract.

I too doubt that we will ever know (nor should the general public know). I'd just hate to see a witch hunt starting here over rumours. I suppose we will just have to wait and see what he gets sold for to judge how the club have handled the affair...

I agree there's no need for witch hunt but .... I'm very shocked by the fact that Kev himself has come out and said that it was "the club" who insisted on the clause and the amount of €100k - Lennox needs to get a hold of the person who settled on this amount and give them a good kick in the hole (out the door !) and point out the significant amount of money that clause may end up costing the club. I mean it's not unrealistic to expect that a club like Reading (or Charlton who apparently are now taking an interest) would be willing to spend €250 - 300k at least on an U21 player who has showed such potential at U21 international level and in European competition (albeit Intertoto but in fairness neither of those clubs can afford to look down on that competition).

It will be a shambles if we only get €100k due, in the main, to an administrative error when we have an asset that is worth many times that.

This is a bit strong really. I agree that Doyler is now worth more than 100,000 ut lets remember for a second who he was when we signed him (ie when this contract would have been wrote).

Doyler was signed at the same time as Dolan, and at the time most people saw it as a promising youngster that Dolan snatched from Pats. That's not the sort of person you expect to be worth more than 100,000 in 3 years. If Pats were willing to let him go (well, maybe not willing), then I presume he was a late bloomer and not a superstar when the contract was wrote. When Doyler was signed, I reckon CCFC would have been delighted to be selling him for 100,000 someday.

Another point, will Pats get a substantial amount of money because they raised him etc?

I could be wrong....BUT... usually a clause with a figure included means that the contract can be terminated ONLY if offers equal to or greater than the figure stated is offered.
So it means if City put in a value of €100,000 then that is the LOWEST price they will sell for.

    Unhappy

I think we debate the whose fault it is to death.

After such a high on Monday its depression to think of firstly losing Doyle & secondly losing him for such low fee.

IMO Doyle is best eL talent for many years & still only 21.

AFAIK, this clause was only put in when he re-signed about 9 months back. I haven't had time to read every post about it, but i ather that Gunther deals with the contracts. A Face, to say Dolan is behind this is so ridiculous at this stage. I'm sure he orchestrated Charlton's bid and all
