The forgotten goals is what would make this particularly interesting alright. It doesn't matter if the goal isn't going to get to, say, the last 16 - it's just a memory jogged.

Those three are added so. Let me set up a thread this evening to take nominations and set out the format. It'll still be another week at least before it's ready to start - and I'd say it might last a month. No rush like.

If anyone else wants to send nominations, maybe PM me rather than post in here. Just to keep the element of surprise for the real thing.

Right - lockdown quietude is still underway, so let's give this a go. Rules and call for nominations here. Not just finals goals - any goal.

Aldridge's goal against Mexico is class from build up through to execution. Often forgotten because we lost the game but it did actually help get us through to the next round.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Can disallowed goals count? I was convinced this had counted, 11 year old me missed it being disallowed (I was allowed to cycle to the pub, 3 or 4 miles away, on my own to watch it) and it was only when I got home and was talking about it to my Dad that he told me it hadn't counted! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YRb-93xmW8

If we are talking non-goals then I'd go for John Sheridan vs Italy in 1994. Roy Keane dribbled past four Italians like some kind of Irish Messi, did a nice pass back from the goal line, Tommy Coyne dummied and let it run on to John Sheridan, who hit the crossbar. Against the greatest defence in the world, at the World Cup.

I've paused the video at the exact moment
