Diego was always threatening to do something great.
He never got a long enough run in the United team to get his confidence up, the press got on his back because it tok him so long to score the first goal, but all in all, he worked incredibly hard, scored some great goals, and some very important goals for the club.

Villarreal's Diego Forlan and Arsenal's Thierry Henry and will share the Golden Shoe award for being this season's top goalscorers in Europe.
Ex-Manchester United striker Forlan scored twice on Sunday for his Spanish team to join Henry on the 25-goal mark.
Henry becomes the first player to win the award two years in a row.
It is only the second time it has been shared. In 1989/90 Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov and Mexican Hugo Sanchez were the joint winners.
Henry is the sixth player to win the award twice, joining such legends as Eusebio and Gerd Muller.
Forlan's double came as Villarreal beat Levante 4-1 to clinch a spot in the next season's Champions League.
"It's been an incredible season and we couldn't have finished it in better style," the Uruguayan said.
"I'm very happy to have ended up as top scorer as it is something that doesn't happen every day.
"Qualifying for the Champions League is a prize that we all deserve as we worked hard for it throughout season."

The obvious comparison with Diego is Savo Milosevic. Admittedly Savo was loathed by the Villa fans whereas Diego was liked by United fans ( Its amazing what 2 goals against Liverpool will do)
Savo and Diego couldn't cut it in The Premiership but went onto to great things in Spain. Saw a lot of both players in England and thought they were both pretty poor. No explanation for it really although confidence is obviously a big factor. Towards the end of his time at United, Diego was pretty low on that
There was a very good article on the BBc website one time about why south americans dont make it. Hernan Cresp put it down to lifestyle. If you are unhappy off thep pitch you are unlikelyl to perform on the pitch. The weather and food etc etc really gets to the South American players and therefore they dont perform to the same extent that they may do in Spain or Italy. There are some exceptions but not that many. Gilberto Silva, Angel, Ardiles, Juninhio have all been a success in the English League.

Would agree you on a general basis but I think that Forlan is a different case. His work rate was phenomenal, a great attitude and did enjoy Manchester life. I think its more of a footballing thing with Diego
just goes to show that englands style of football is a killer for many fantastic players, forlan and milosevic are an example of players who have shone in othr countries, that dont play 90mph headless chicken football

I dont think forlan ever got adecent run in the team if you look at his apps it was always agame here and there. in fairness van nistilroy was on fire.Its all about confidence and if he had been there this season he would have got plenty of games.
