just goes to show that englands style of football is a killer for many fantastic players, forlan and milosevic are an example of players who have shone in othr countries, that dont play 90mph headless chicken football

What about some of the fantastic players who performed exceptionally well in the killer style of English football and couldn't replicate their form in a less frantic league abroad. What does that say about Spanish Football, Italian or French Football for example???

It's more to do with the players style than the league style. Some world class players will excell in one league due to a number of reasons - the team they are with, the style of play the team uses, the managers tactics, the oppositions tactics etc etc

Most people could see that Diego Forlan was a decent footballer who never really had the luck in front of goal when at Utd. He's taking his chances now and is probably actually getting less chances to score at Villareal than he would at Utd but their going in for him at the moment and the team style of play suits him.

His strike rate at United would only have been slightly affected by the frantic pace of the game, it's all the other elements I've mentioned above that would probably also have had to work against him which they obvioulsy aren't now in Spain.

Well the point I was trying to make is that a player mightn't do well in one league but much better in another for a number of reasons not just the style of play in the league.

I was trying to highlight that the Premier League is not the only case of that. Players are suited to different leagues, different systems, different styles all the time. It doesn't make them bad players when they have a poor run.

Agree with ya about the media saying inaccurate things about players but it's the people who'll believe what journalists say over what football people say, that are the biggest catylst of those opinions.

if forlan had been with a team outside the top 6 in england he would have been a success,too much pressure at utd,the club was too big and too much of a spot light on him,a non regulary scorer at utd is always targeted,look at ruud when he came back for the ac milan game,didnt score for the next 7 or 8 games

You can be a fantastic player in one league because of the style of play, the team you have, the system etc.......

Someone said on the thread that the killer style of english football was ruining great players but how come great players like Rush, Henry, Anelka, Overmars etc etc played their best football in the english league while struggled in less frantic leagues. The reason is because of the points mentioned above. It's not a problem exclusive to players who come to english football, but also players who move to Italy, Spain, France etc etc.
