But 35k wouldn't have been capacity back in the late 80's, and would've been decent crowds. Now 35k isn't that great.
Small teams have always had smaller crowds, true, but there has been a fall off in recent seasons and clubs in false positions will always do less well. By false positions, I mean positions and teams not justified by the money the club actually brings in, Fulham and Blackburn would be prime examples...

The passage way from the main campus past the athletics track in Belfield can be a bit messy if it has been raining or at least it used to be.
Nothing to do with the presentation of the PL: the Irish papers have been full of the English leagues since as long as I remember and well before Sky took an interest. In a national school in Ireland in the 1960s we nearly all chose an English team to follow - there was always that interest no doubt influenced by the mass emigration from Ireland to England, where Irish people moved to the big cities in England and followed clubs there and also because it was bigger and better than our own game. I used to go to Rovers a lot then - big crowds at Milltown and Dalymount for Cup Finals but I still regarded the English league as the epitome of soccer. As it was - if you were a good Irish player you went to the English leagues to play and still do.
I'm not even sure how my soccer in interest grew since my parents were from Roscommon and Waterford respectively and I played GAA and hurling at national school and rugby at secondary school but I always loved soccer. I think it was the international aspect of the game that appealed to me and the Irish playing in England and the Irish team representing me on the international stage.
