    Ultimate insult.

Is there any wonder Doherty gets picked in the squad as forward ahead of him.

Just goes to show just cos a Premiership player doesn't mean any good.

Macken is and has always been useless. No idea why Kerr chased after him but I for one hope he never dons the Green again. I know we're not blessed in the striker department but anyone is better than this tool

I was watchin MOTD alright...Couldn't stop laughin it was a great . Fair play to him for throwing him up there... makes thing more interesting. Didn't stop to think about poor Mr Macken...Shows exactly what he thinks of him too. Cant see him doin much for Ireland now anyway...

What was even funnier was the look on Claudia Reyna's face when he was coming off and James was going up front, priceless

Macken is hopeless, it's a disgrace he got as many call ups as he did.

watch him come good within 12 months and then you'll all be saying "i told you anyway!" he cost 5 million pounds and i bet he is a good player. cunningham said he was a very good player with the ball at his feet. i just think he is very very low on confidence at the moment

I think he is like Connolly, who can only play at 1st Div( Championship) level. Dont think he will be at Man City for much longer. If PNE get past the playoffs they may go back fo him.

I doubt after his injuries he'd even be as good at that level anymore, he looks completley inept every time I've seen him play.

Looks like he may be on his way to the Eagles.

City's Macken set for Palace move

Jon Macken looks poised to leave Manchester City to join Crystal Palace.
The Coca-Cola Championship side's manager Iain Dowie is believed to have made an initial approach for the 27-year-old striker.

Macken has struggled to get a regular run in the City team after being bought from Preston in 2002 for £5.5million by the then manager Kevin Keegan.

He scored once in the Barclaycard Premiership last season and it is understood he does not figure in new boss Stuart Pearce's long-term plans.

Macken, who still has a year to run on his contract, was on the bench in the final game against Middlesbrough.

But Pearce decided to use goalkeeper David James as an extra attacker in a vain attempt to get the winner, which would have secured a UEFA Cup spot.

He truly looks off the pace at premiership level. even if low on confidence you would think that he would have got a simple goal or two the fact that he is not even missing many chances shows he is out of his depth

Honest hardworking player who has reasonable touch, no pace. Will always be a Div 1 type player. City would do well to get a fiver for him.
The above is all opinion and based on personal experience. Unless stated otherwise it is not a dig at anybody, well probably none of you lot.

poor oul' Connolly. He has a fantastic goals per start ratio (without partering Robbie Keane which usually fails) but still gets put down as one of the worst. Since Robbie Keane got his first cap, Connolly has only started 5 games without him as his partner and played well in all. He partnered Shipperly at Wimbledon and scored 42 goals in 63 games. He was MOM in one of his most recent caps, the friendly against Turkey. He is certainly not one of the worst players to don the green.

well I'll have to presume you're 14 or 15 and haven't seen many of the players capped for Ireland.

Oh come on. Connolly was an extremely hard working player for his country. Even at Feyenoord he scored very few goals but the fans loved him because he tried his best. Connolly and Keane didn't work out which made him look worse.
