    Centre midfield against isreal

With Keane out of the isreal game,Who would you like to see in the centre against isreal?? I would love to see Matt Holland and Stephen Reid, but I dont think he'll "risk" reid, and play kavanagh or holland with kilbane.

Kav and whoever is better in training Stephen Reid or Kilbane. I would have said Kilbane as a cert 2 months ago, but his season seemed to tail off and Reid's really done well in the last few months, so I'd see which one seems sharper in training. Think we need to start with Kav as he can be used to keep possesion, break up their play and for his range of passing. Think Holland's form had dropped a bit too as the season went on, and Kilbane and Reid offer more to the team than him.

dont mind really either kav and kilbane or holland and kilbane would be very happy with that .. dont see what others see in stephen reid .. distinctly average player for me who has never shown enough for international level..

    Kavanagh and Kilbane in center..
With Kavanagh taking over Keanes usual role... Even though it was againg China, Kavanagh really impressed me that day, I'd say he well up for it!!
Stephen Reid but is a bit of a risk, out on the wing maybe!

I would go for Kavanagh and Holland/Kilbane beside him. Kav can string a pass together and isn't afraid to get stuck in. I think we'll have to belt into the Israelis from the start and don't let them stand on the ball at all. Kilbane is good for unsettling players and getting under their skin (a shame his passing or shooting isn't up to much) so maybe he should get the nod over Holland.

We gave them far too much space in Tel Aviv and the ref allowed their defenders away with murder in terms of fouling Duff. They shouldn't get it that easy this time.

Have to disagree with you about Steven Reid. He is a far better central midfielder, as his recent form has shown, than played in the wider positions.

Kav-Kilbane started vs: Brazil, Cyprus, Croatia and China.
Brazil - Their first time together against a world class team and they both played very well, especially off the ball.
Cyprus - Nobody can replace Roy Keane's presence but his presence wasn't needed against the Cypriots and Kav did everything asked. Keane wouldn't have made much difference. Kilbane wasn't at his best but he's more of an off the ball worker and we had the ball for most of the match.
Croatia - Kav and captain Kibane both had brilliant games. I think Kilbane was MOM.
China - Kav deservedly MOM but nobody else really played well at all.

Holland-Kilbane only ever started vs: Czech Republic. - Holland was anonymous in midfield and only got into the game when played at centre half for the last 20 minutes. Kilbane played well and didn't give Nedved a much time on the ball.

So Kav-Kilbane is my preferred choice. Kilbane needs to have someone to man mark. He's better against the better teams. Benayoun could easily stun us so Kilbane can keep tabs on him. Kav can do what he always does in green.

Kav & Kilbane for me too, by a long way.

A guy who can run all day to break up possession and a guy with a great range of passing who can mix it physically too. And they've played together too.

I'm not sure that Kilbane & Holland would have much to offer creatively.

kavanagh is pure quality. he'll look better in the premiership than he did in division one such is the style of play. more short passing to the feet as opposed to the long punt crap in div.1

    him n kilbane

Great research and puts my mind somewhat at ease with that central pairing on recollection of those games and how they did...

Suspended having gotten a yellow against Israel. Carr is out as well, booked for timewasting. I can't remember what Keane was booked for.

Earth to Owls fan he picked up yellow cards against The Swiss and Israel. The Israel one was ridiculous. Afraid of the Israeli attack in the last ten minutes he cynically floored one of their players (sorry cant remember who) as he went past him with speed. Totally unnecessary..I think it was about the half way line over beside the line....Still no biggy I reckon we will be fine without the both....

Match report and info on suspensions...don't read if ye don't wanna remember

Doh! Thanks. Head full of how to get a ticket for the Millenium Stadium play off I forgot about that booking in Israel. I'd go for Holland/Kavanagh since Kilbane has tailed off form wise as the season went on. However, Kerr will pick Kilbane/Kavanagh.

So will the right side be Carr/Reid (adventurous), Finnan/Reid (form) or Carr/Finnan (conservative) ?

Doh! Carr is out as well . So that settles right side. Finnan/Reid.

Even if Carr wasn't suspended, I think Finnan might well have gotten in there in his stead. I don't think Carr was half as bad against Israel as a lot of people said but if Finnan hasn't played his way in by now, there's no justice.

I'm a big fan of Kerr's but if we can't beat this lot at home, I'm not sure if we deserve to go to the World Cup, never mind not topping the group.

Not particularly confident, but we don't have a lot to choose from. Anyway, he went off injured in the cup final, havent heard any update about that yet though.

I reckon give Harte the Faroes game at LB, with one eye on trying to get as many goals as possible, let him take the free kicks...
