Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if England won something, I only care about Ireland winning or not winning things.
I absolutely cannot stand England winning in any sport or event. I've just been brought up that way. Although, most of the younger generation are pro-England in football these days.

Its the media and some of there players that wreck my head. Some of the ignorant view they express sometimes is unreal. Jamie Carragher before the Champions League final said on Football Focus, that Liverpool should be allowed to defend the title and said that some little club should be thrown out in order to allow them to defend it. It was the arrogance and ignorance of his tone and the statement itself that annoyed me. He has had a great tournament but he will always be a ******** in my eyes for that.

Completely agree, not so much the winning as the fact that we (more than any other country due to the amount of their channels we get) would have to listen to them go on (and on, and on, and on, and..) about how they're the greatest in the world at it, how they'll go on to dominate the sport for decades.

Tommy Tiernan said it best when he said he has nothing against the English he just does not like them to do well in things like sport and wars. Or that they go around conquering the world and invading other peoples countries and then get annoyed when those people decide to follow them home.

Never want them to win anything and never will.Jesus when they lost to Portugal in Euro 2004 we celebrated for a week.Even doing so badly in the Euro song contest was great. It's nothing political its just the way they remind the whole nation day in day out for years.ffs they are still talking about 1966.

Forgive me but I actually watched the Eurovision aftershow thing on BBC3 last week. They were talking to a lot of the contestants and not once did they say anything about their performance. They spent the 45 minutes asking people why they didn't vote for them, why they didn't get more votes, etc. Most of them just wanted to ask them if it had anything to do with the song or performance. One of them did say though that whether there is political voting or not, the best song usually always wins anyway. They won't accept it though.

From an article on Soccernet regarding Benitez rebuilding for next next year

"Full-back Steve Finnan spent most of the early season benched in favour of Josemi. He has been fortunate in that his rival's impetuosity won him a spot in the side. But Finnan was culpable for both Crespo goals and was subbed at half-time. With earnings from being European champions said to eventually total £50m, Benitez will surely look to reinforce here."

Harsh.... To say the very least.

And I don't recall Finnan being benched for MOST of the early season either.

Finnan was not at fault for any of Milan's goals - the first two came about because of Traore and the third came about because Luis Garcia (I think) gave the ball away very cheaply while Liverpool were going forward. Milan countered very quickly and none of Liverpool's defenders had time to re-organise.

The commentator on Sky definately said he had an injury and was taken off because of that ... nothing to do with his performance.

Finnan has been quality for Liverpool throughout 2005. I'd be amazed if Benitez doesn't appreciate that.
