Breen withdrawn from squad
Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr today announced that defefender Gary Breen has had to withdraw from the squad for the upcoming testimonial and World Cup qualifiers against Celtic, Israel and the Faroe Islands.
"Gary's knee injury has failed to respond to daily treatement since the last game of the season and has had to withdraw from our upcoming games," said Brian Kerr.
"I am disappointed to lose a defender of Gary's experience but I am hopeful that he will be fit to return for the autumn internationals."
No we can all see why he was unhappy with the Richard Dunne situation
If Cunningham was to get injured we are in terrible trouble. Fingers cross, touch wood...![]()
Ya we're down to two centre backs and maybe O'shea. But if O'Shea plays in the centre then we're screwed at LB as Finnan's already needed at right with Carr out.
As it stands we're OK (Breen wasn't going to start anyway), but one more injured defender and we're up the creek.
I don't like the idea of Kilbane or Maybury at LB against Israel and I wouldn't want to see Kelly or McCarthy thrown in either
stupid thing to say .. ah its excellent we only have 2 fit centre halfs now .great news . breen has had an excellent season in the championship team of season.. always done well for ireland .. needed him in squadOriginally Posted by stojkovic
And now Finnan's gone off in the Champions League Final with a thigh strain. Anyone know how long these things take to heal? Less than 10 days???
O'Shea and Harte in the full back rolls now......
Don't say that....anything but that.
Kerr will play Marbury before Harte.
There is no such thing as a miracle cure, a free lunch or a humble opinion.
would take harte any day of the week ahead of maybury .. another liam miller who looks scared of the ballOriginally Posted by Fergie's Son
Just been added to the squad for the testimonial, although he will apparently be going back to the U-21's for their (meaningless) qualifiers.Originally Posted by tetsujin1979
It won't happen, but:
O'Brien - Cunningham - O'Shea
Holland - Kavanagh - Kilbane - Duff
Andy Reid
Robbie - Clinton
An attacking formation for a game we need to win. Anyway I just thought I'd put it out there. I mean if we're not happy with our full back options, then why have full backs?
But I think Matt Holland would be a safe pair of hands at right full if necessary.

Sorry Kingdom - I should have said Finnan was out. That was a factor in my selection. I think he's one of our top 3 or 4 players so I'd never leave Finnan out if he's fit.
